Savaii Lagoon Resort is a favorite among guests for its cheerful and relaxed atmosphere, with the Fiafia Night being a cultural highlight. The rooms, praised for their cleanliness and space, may be simple and due for updates, yet they provide satisfactory value alongside amenities like the pristine beach and engaging outdoor activities. While the tropical breakfast delights many, some guests suggest a broader selection. The resort’s staff is widely regarded as friendly and helpful, despite occasional reports of slower service.

My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. We had previously stayed at Le Legato a couple of years ago, so we knew the beach here was wonderful for swimming and snorkeling due to the clear water. Everyone was so friendly, room was spacious and very clean, the outdoor shower was great. The dinner menu at the restaurant changed every night and the food was delicious. Wish we could have stayed longer, hopefully we can come back in the near future, thank you for a wonderful time here!

We booked 3 units last June 2020 and had the most incredible week swimming in the most amazing beach, rooms were a great size with beautiful views of the ocean and the food was great especially fresh fish and fruit. The staff were so humble and really looked after all of us.
We have again booked 3 units for next week, 22nd May for a week but due to the coronavirus we unforutunately cannot cross the border into Samoa. Please would the Manager reply to the repeat emails I have been sending to change dates and contact Hotel.com. Regards Deborah - New Zealand

They say you haven’t been to Samoa if you haven’t been to Savaii. This is the real Samoa, lines of well-manicured and pleasant villages as you drive along the main road from the ferry at Salelologa. The work of the women’s committees in terms of setting standards for gardens and colours of fences and even houses, all diligently put into effect by the men. Expect to see dogs, chickens and pigs crossing the road from time-to-time.

Savaii Lagoon Resort is at the top (west end) of the island and takes about an hour by road to get there. It is an idyllic spot, nestled in front of Fagamalo Village and ringed by mountains somewhat further back from the coast. As they say it is 3-Star accommodation with 5-Star service, at least they are trying to provide that, language issues sometime lead to miscommunication but that’s minor.

Pros
• The idyllic location
• Small, only 10 rooms only
• The safe, flat bottomed beach and warm water (28+)
• Beach towels and snorkeling gear provided
• The food – breakfasts, lunches and dinners on site with good variety
• Small store across the road
• Pizza place which does other foods as well as ice-creams and smoothies, across the road
• Fiafia night (Wednesdays, April to November) – a demonstration of Samoan song and dance – don’t miss this
• Day tour with Island Wheels (Sam or John), 100 Tala per person.
• Plenty of sunbathing options (but see ‘Cons’)
• Snorkeling is ok – if you go far enough out – or pay for the boat option (lot of dead coral close in)
• Fagamalo village is dog and pig, free
• Service and friendly staff and management
• Accommodation – basic but perfectly adequate

Cons

• Getting there on the ferry – you may end up on an open deck exposed to the elements
• Non-existent wi-fi
• Shopping options are basic – so don’t forget sunscreen! If you want Tonic to go with your gin, buy it at the Harbourside Café in Salelologa before you go to the resort
• Shaded loungers – note these canopies don’t stop the sun – we all got sunburned under these – so wear sunscreen even in the shade
• Roosters – early morning wake ups from the village roosters
• 5am Saturday morning bells to call kids to religious classes
• Rooms aren’t sound-proof

I will start with the positives for this place. The dinner at the restaurant was absolutely delicious with great service. The Oka and Lobster Mornay were truly fabulous and I have reviewed the restaurant separately. The staff including the owners were pleasant and the views from the room were stunning. Great folder in the room with information on things to see and do in the area and local customs etc.

We only stayed here for 1 night and I am glad that is all we had booked for. The rooms though only built in 2005, feel like they have been here since 1970 without being upgraded at all. It rained at night while we were here so had to close the louvres and despite the portable air con the rooms were very hot and stuffy and the fans sounded like a small plane taking off they were so loud (to be fair the owner attempted to compensate for our bad night sleep by not charging us for 2 juices). I even went outside during to night to lay on the sunlounge in an attempt to cool off. Despite the booking stating eggs were served with breakfast we were only offered weetbix and toast, or fruit and toast for breakfast. The glass louvres meant you could close the curtains and get no breeze or feel like everyone can see in (to both the bedroom and living area) if the lights were turned on at night, so definitely lacking privacy. I understand that this is a 3 star resort but we felt this is more like a very poor quality backpackers, definitely not worth the price that we paid. We stayed at 4 other resorts in Samoa which were all lovely and 3 of them we paid less than we paid here. I understand the resort has now been sold with new owners taking over in a few weeks. The new owners will need to do extensive renovations to both the rooms and the grounds to make it worth the money they charge.

Hello 1974 Travel Bug. You also posted a review on another on line site and I responded to that review. You have made exactly the same comments here. Therefore, I will respond with my comments as said on that other posting. It is nice to hear that you enjoyed the restaurant and food. We pride ourselves on what we offer in the restaurant. The situation of the restaurant is amazing. You were not able to have cooked eggs for breakfast because there were no eggs available on the whole of Savaii!. Shipments from NZ are hugely delayed. For example there are no onions in the whole of Samoa. due to shipping issues. Breakfast is cereal, fruits, toast and eggs so you would have been offered cereal, fruits and toasts with tea or coffee at least. With reference to your bungalow. no one can see in once your lights are turned off. I am sorry that you had an uncomfortable night and I would have offered to compensate you more if you had explained to me in more detail. We do upgrade the bungalows constantly with most having been painted inside and out, and maintenance regularly carried out, but still trying to get on top of things following borders being closed for over two and a half years causing the resort to remain closed for that time. We ourselves were not allowed to enter Samoa at that time either. Due to overseas fruit picking we have lost more than one third of our staff to overseas and that is a huge hole. On Savaii there is a limited pool to draw from. We are doing our best to deal with the situation. We have regular returning guests who come here for our lovely beach, restaurant on the water and the general ambience of being able to mix with our guests etc.. We deliberately aim at remaining 3 star and in fact have won the Samoan award in our category. I find it sad that you have likened us to a back backers. We are nothing like that at all. I had a brief friendly conversation with you and if you had advised me of all these concerns I could have explained, therefore I am explaining here.. I am sorry that your experience was not a good one. We do our best to ensure that our guests are happy. I regret that your experience was not a good one.

We booked this resort based on the reviews however we felt it did not provide value for money compared to other hotels/resorts close by. The rooms are basic but have everything you need. Majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful however there was one particular waitress who either disliked her job immensely or was having a very bad day. The restaurant must make food when ordered which means it’s freshly cooked but our food would come out at different times - one time when half our group had finished their dinner the other half received theirs. An acknowledgment from the waitress would’ve gone a long way but nothing was said or apology offered. The restaurant also had supply issues with simple items like bread, bananas and pineapple. If no bread is available for breakfast then please offer another option. The room rate included a tropical breakfast (cereal, toast, coffee, fruit) - my feedback is if you’re offering cereal can you pls offer something other than ricies or cornflakes. Muesli would’ve been appreciated for adults and also a hot traditional option would’ve been great, such as koko alaisa or suafa’i.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent stay with us. We're glad to hear that our rooms provided everything you needed, and that the majority of our staff were friendly and helpful during your stay. However, we apologize for any negative experiences you had with one particular waitress and the issues you faced with food service and supplies. We take all feedback seriously, and we will be sure to address these issues with our team and make the necessary changes to improve our service and offerings. Regarding breakfast, we appreciate your suggestions for adding more variety and traditional options, which we will certainly take into consideration. We hope that you'll consider staying with us again in the future and that we'll have the opportunity to exceed your expectations. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

Savaii Lagoon Resort did not dissapoint in the slightest.
The rooms were incredibly spacious, clean and air conditioned. The outdoor shower by the entrance way provided us with a great way to get the sand off before entering the villa as well as lots of space to hang togs and towels to dry after a big day relaxing.
The beach.... well... WOW pristine, spectacular and inviting. Snorkeling off the beach amongst the coral, array of fish and turtles was the icing on the cake.
But the best part has to be the owners and staff, Robyn and Grant are so welcoming and caring not just to guest but staff too. You can tell their staff are treated as family (as were we). The restaurant had a chalk board menu for evening meals which changed daily with 4 options as well as a cocktail of the night and all very well priced! I'd definitely advise booking a table here if you aren't staying as they do get busy especially for their outstanding cultural show on a Wednesday which was going OFF!!! OVERALL.....10/10 stay. Sad to be home which is the sign of staying at a truly special place in paradise. Thank you Savaii Lagoon Resort.

Spent four days staying in the waters edge bungalow (bungalow 8), truly the most private of all the bungalows. The bungalow was spotless, airconditioned with a private outside shower. The waters edge fale out front is a magic spot just relax and enjoy the view. The bungalow itself is spacious with a queen bed, dining table and a number of chairs, A small fridge more than accommodated a dozen beers for supping relaxing outside the bungalow on the outdoor seats and loungers provided.
We travelled with family members that stayed in a separate bungalow with their 6-year-old son. The wee fella loved swimming in the lagoon.
Barefoot Bar & Restaurant serves up delicious meals lunch and dinner at a reasonable price, it is a bit of a captured market, but we were satisfied with the food for the price. Tropical breakfast was included in our room rate and is well worth having. Really enjoyed happy hour on the deck watching the sunset. Our first evening sharing a beer with Grant (one of the owners) as we watch an amazing sunset. Robyn is the other half of the ownership, very welcoming and out there ensuring everyone is enjoying their stay. All the staff were attentive to our needs and requests.
Wednesday Night is buffet dinner and Fiafia Night, worth the extra tala, the buffet was delicious and the performance that followed by the staff was fantastic.
It is truly a magic spot and worth the effort to get there…… wish we had stayed longer. Will we be back? You bet we will.

The view over the bay and water is spectacular, in particular the sunsets. Our room was lovely. It was more like a little house with an amazing gazebo at the front where we could sit and look out over the water. The private bathroom was outside with a small garden and no roof, Samoan style which was a nice touch. It was very clean. The staff were very friendly. The food and drinks at the restaurant were exceptional and very tasty. An area in the sea in front of the hotel has been dug out so when the tide is out (half the day) you can still swim and snorkel.
Our only disappointment was that we didn't book a seat in the boat beforehand and couldn't go out a bit further in the sea to swim with the turtles as the boat was already booked out by other guests. I ended up doing this a few days later though at the Giant Clam Sanctuary.

My daughter and I spent a wonderful five nights, swmimming, snorkeling and generally relaxing. What a spot! Gorgeous clear water with colorful fish and turtles. We were lucky enough to see turtles on two occasions. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit beachfront which was very roomy and had everything we needed. AC worked well. So nice to hear the waves at night and just pull back curtains in the morning and see the gorgeous view. Great meals at the restaurant served by friendly and helpful staff. Breakfasts were very good. Took a day tour with John from the resort where we visited Lava fields, blow holes, market, supermarket and waterfalls. What a treat John was! Kept us entertained with lots of interesting info about the island, people and sites we visited. A very safe driver too. The resort is perfect for people who don't expect 5 star facilities but enjoy swimming and water activities. Bought a sim card for 30 tala at airport which provided us with all the data we needed and had good coverage. Hope to visit again.

We have not had any situations of our guests falling ill with dengue fever. We ensure that there is no water lying around and due to being on the beachfront there is a breeze. Our accommodations have insect screens over the windows. It is always advisable of course to wear insect repellent in any tropical climate. July is filling fast so check our website. Best wishes.

The rooms have overhead and floor fans as we believe that Air con is actually unhealthy. Our guests are very happy and many return year after year. The lagoon is very safe for swimming and snorkeling.
