This was a quite special hostel in many ways; cool atmosphere with nice artwork, very friendly and helpful hosts of which one (Emerson) is a very knowledgeable mountaineer and guide and who lent us hats and ponchos to visit an indigenous fiesta together. The price included a good breakfast. There was good internet, at least in the common areas.

On the advice of a friend, we went to the Hostal Refugio Terra Esperanza to summit the Imbabura Volcano. We were very well received by the sympathetic owner Emerson (who did not hesitate to take us to a local festival) and his family. The hotel is very well located in a quiet village at the foot of the volcano and has...

I had a great experience with Emerson, the owner and professional guide at Rufugio. I slept comfortably and then ascended the volcano the next morning. It was very quiet, in an unique setting. A five minute ride takes you to the trailhead. The guide work was of the utmost in safety and consideration for our team of ten people. Highly...

We recently hiked Imbabura Volcano. Were a group of 10 people, ranging from 12 years old 68 years. It started at about 8628 feet and the top was at 15,120 feet. It was a continuous uphill climb for the first three-quarters, and the last quarter was more like rock climbing, not technical, but tricky in areas. Our guides Emmerson and...

It was my second time there, and I would go back again. I took a group of friends to Terra Esperanza to summit the Imbabura Volcano, but we ended up staying a few extra nights because Emerson (the owner) showed us a wonderful time. The place is a pretty straight forward mountain lodge, it offers hot water, hot meals, fire...

Emerson (the host) made our experience unforgettable with nights of traditional costumes and traditional drinks! He can also organise amazing treks around the area, the best of which was the ascent of Mt Imbabura. Would definitely recommend staying here ig you're looking...

I stayed there for 3 nights, and it was awesome. The owners of the place are so nice. It's a bit far from the city (20min bis or 5$ taxi) however, there's few hike around. I have made the cubilche hike. It's a good one. There is also waterfalls not too far, and a volcano. In Ibarra, the laguna is...
