A hotel that brushes its guests at every opportunity sending free laundry for an item and you get to pay demands $130 for 11 items sent simple things like socks The feeling of coming out of the land without any shame Anyone who wants to stay at the hotel should consider it again. This is the only way for a hotel to respect its guests. Very good service and 3 star rooms. Good breakfast. Managing One Star

The hotel has wonderful views of the lake. The rooms are basic but clean. But I would not stay here again for these reasons:
1. There is ZERO sound proofing in the rooms. You can hear people talking in the adjacent rooms and in the hallways. It was very disruptive.
2. They use keypads to open room doors. They were very finicky and on more than one occasion I struggled to open the door to my room.
3. The bar charged $23.00 for a basic gin and tonic made with well gin. Someone in our group wanted to add onions to an omelette that was already included in the buffet and he was charged $19 for the onions! I was with a tour group and our tour director warned us that the laundry charges were astronomical. So please check on prices before you purchase anything or use a hotel service. Bottom line is that this basic hotel charged more than the fine five star hotels in Buenos Aires. It absolutely made no sense.

The views from this hotel are amazing it is beautifully clean and the rooms are large and comfortable with enough amenities in them to make it ok so all good on that count. The spa is very small but nip in as soon as back from tour and you will have a good dip the sauna not very hot but still restful. Best if we avoid talking about breakfast just cheap end not much healthy food but there is a fruit salad but mainly bread and cakes and some very sad bacon and some form of scrambled egg but to be fair it is geared up for trips. The coffee at breakfast is dreadful not sure if you can call it coffee but if you make enough fuss they will get you one from the coffee machine which is really good. Unfortunately the staff are most unhelpful but from their point of view it is just a transit hotel they certainly know how to charge for drinks and food wow but just take the excellent shuttle bus to town. If this was a three star hotel you would be delighted just a shame they are deluded and think they are five star.

Splendid hotel with a panoramic view of the lake, which changes color several times a day and is populated by various birds, including flamingos. The welcome from the staff is punctual and professional. The large and bright rooms are well furnished, with an impeccable bed and a panoramic view of the lake. The breakfast is complete and of excellent quality. There is a well-furnished bar where you can order a quick meal, and a restaurant where you eat very well with impeccable service. It is a hotel that I recommend to everyone and where I would gladly return. Congratulations to the managers and staff PS: the hotel is a little far from the center which you can reach on foot in 30 minutes or with the transfer offered by the tree. Or by taxi at a cost of 2000 pesos..

We really enjoyed our stay at Xelena while we were visiting El Calafate. The hotel is well maintained, very clean with great amenities and views. The rooms are sizable and beds are very comfortable. We took advantage of Xelena spa services (massage was good and very affordable) and also enjoyed their pool & sauna. Breakfast was nice too. The location is somewhat remote, but it wasn’t a problem to get taxi to El Calafate downtown and back to the hotel. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your comment and sharing your experience. It gives us great pleasure to know that you were able to enjoy all the services and take time for a massage, it is ideal after a long day of excursions. As mentioned, we are far from the center, but we have a free transfer in the afternoon, otherwise a taxi takes 10 minutes to get to the center. We hope you liked the city of El Calafate.

Our room (111) was at the end of a hall, and facing Lago Argentino, so it was quiet and had a stunning view of the lake. Staff were kind and helpful, especially Maximilliano. The shuttle into town is a great convenience and the pool is particularly welcome after a day trekking or climbing. Not sure why the dining room was so empty, but the bar/lounge was perfect for no-fuss snacks or a quick meal.

Mel, thanks for your time and comment, we appreciate this. Max is quite new at the hotel, but he is really helpful with our guests. We are glad to know that you found the shuttle useful and that you enjoyed your night at the Mora, as we are now in low season, it is not full.

This hotel boasts it’s a 5* . We think 3* is more realistic . It’s similar to a regular Airport hotel/ UK travel Lodge . All very clean, not much noise insulation for bedrooms , so everyone walking up and down corridors are clearly heard ! Breakfast basic , having to pay for coffee if you want one!
It does run an a minibus in and out of Calafate every hour , which is useful

Xelena is NOT the 5-star hotel it claims to be. (They show 5 stars on all their logos, which should tell you that they want to be what they are not.). However, it is a very nice hotel with good views of Lago Argentina and is located close to many attractions, including Glaciers National Park. The rooms were clean and featured black-out shades, but the bathrooms were very small and had very little counter space. The staff was friendly and helpful, though there were not as many English speakers as we found at the three other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Patagonia. One really nice touch was the tango dancing show that was performed at dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Thank you for your comment and time, our hotel has everything necessary to be 5 stars, we understand that in other locations certain services may vary, but please understand that in many cases the location limits this, as well as getting a total of staff who speak English, likewise, we have a large amount in the fundamental areas.

The hotel is probably one of the best in the area however do not expect much. Rooms are comfortable and the view of the lake was nice. It is not a luxurious property, just a mid-budget hotel priced a bit higher than one would expect yet one has to remember that the tourist season is relatively short. Breakfast was fine. Service was friendly.

We appreciate your time and comment. We are glad to know that you appreciated the rooms and the views. You can see all the facilities of the hotel in our photos as well as in the photos shared by our guests. One of the characteristics of the area, as you mention, is that it has a short working season which makes operations even more difficult, but we always seek to improve our service.

The hotel is at best 3 stars, very poor breakfast spread and the only place to fill your water bottle (since they don’t refill) is on reception floor. One has to take the lift come up few floors walk to the reception fill a bottle, that is awful guest service to say the least. Rooms have good views of the lake and staff is very friendly too. Infact they gave me the room by 11.30 way before the check in time. Overall a good hotel only if they claim to be a three star and charge for what they are.

The breakfast is from 6 am to 10:30 on march. That is right, most of the tours start early in the morning and in some, you may need to take some food with you.

I believe the kitchen stays open till 11:30pm or later. Most late tours get back around 9-10pm. Taxis in town will cost $365 pesos to get to the hotel. Keep in mind that Uber does not work in this region.
