Just a warning to traveler's that Rick's Place also rents out apartments in La Boca. We thought that we were staying and reserved a space at Rick's Place so after a 10 hour plane ride, we got there just to be driven to an apartment in La Boca (a not so safe neighborhood in Buenos Aires). They were nice about... More

Having stayed for 4 nights at Rick's Place last week, I was saddened to read the recent person's experience regarding the storage locker and I would hope that this does not put anybody off this unique place. Our experience of staff did not match as they were very helpful and polite to us. If you want a conventional hotel then... More

Rick's Place offers all the confort of a good hotel, but so much moren on top of that! Lee, the manager, is very helpful and friendly and makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The breakfast is yummie with cheese, eggs, fresh juice, nice bread, muffins, you name it. It's one big table where everybody eats, which we... More

We chose Rick's Place because of all the excellent Trip Advisor reviews but unfortunately, we did not have such a glowing experience there. Our room was very noisy, there were cats everywhere (we're both allergic) and most devastating of all - we experienced substantial theft. Rick's Place is an extremely casual (read: John, the owner lounging around as if in... More

Rick's Place is one of a kind. John and Lee were absolutely the most helpful and considerate hosts bar none. One night our family arrived from the airport well past 1AM to find John waiting outside with the key to let us in so as not to disturb the other guests. Over a wonderful full breakfast, John shares his love... More

Rick´s Place is a good place to stay when visiting Buenos Aires. A generous breakfast, clean and silent room and bath with a good shower, and the good assistence of Lee, john and their staff. In San Telmo, near of good restaurants, is a place with good service of transportation.

Rick´s Place is the best hidden gem in Buenos Aires for sure. I found Rick´s online and communicated easily with Lee, who was more than helpful and answerd my millions of questions about the place, the location (San Telmo) and the like. I´ve stayed at Rick´s twice now and am heading back in a few days for my 3rd stay... More

Having read the reviews on Tripadvisor on this little gem in Buenos Aires, we booked our stay with the property directly. On arrival, we could immediately see why others before us had written such glowing reports. "Rick's Place" is a warm, friendly and perfectly located property for that city experience. On arrival, our luggage had been lost by the airline.... More

My friends and I stayed at Rick's Place for a few nights, and it was probably the highlight of an amazing trip to Argentina & Chile. Lee & John couldn't be more welcoming and helpful hosts. We are already planning our next trip to beautiful BA and Rick's Place.

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
