After reading the glowing reviews of Hotel Costa Rica, I expected something better. Our room (Junior, $70/day) contained a king-size bed, 3 nested end tables (no drawers or shelves), a suitcase stand, a wastebasket, and a small curtained alcove with a 3-foot clothespole. Period. There was a 2-foot clearance from bed to wall on the right, 3 feet at the...

I cannot understand the positive reviews that this hotel has been getting. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world and few if any were as terrible as this one. Firstly our 'room' had no windows whatsoever. It really felt like a jail cell.... it was a jail cell. It had a bed and that is about it...

What a delightful surprise! having failed to make early enough reservations at the more popular-and expensive- boutique hotels we were apprehensive went guided to this unknown with considerably lower rates. From the moment we stepped off the quiet street and beyond the gorgeous 10' doors we knew we would be fine-Jan, the host/owner, could not have been more accomodating. Providing...

This was a great hotel in the Palermo area of Buenos Aires. The location is awesome. The hotel is on a quiet street, but a short walk to some great restaurants and bars. In addition, it is close enough to downtown in a taxi that is very cheap. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They made some great recommendation...

We bookended our trip in Argentina with Hotel Costa Rica. We stayed there the first night of our honeymoon, and then again, for the last four days of it. We had requested one of their rennovated rooms with private bathroom (including bathtub). And we couldn't have been more happy. The hotel is rustic with high ceilings and comfortable beds and...

Hands down the worst "hotel" I've stayed in, and I've stayed in some dumps in the past 20 years. Where do I begin? Basically, it's a glorified youth hostel and the manager needs things done his way, for his convenience. There is no concern for guest comfort. My room/cell gave a new meaning to minimalism. Cement floors, no closet or...

Just returned from a two week stay in Buenos Aires and our most memorable days were spent at the Hotel Costa Rica. In the process of being refubished, we had a fine room with daily maid service. At $65.00 a night, we could easily get to any part of the city by bus or taxi. The tiny pasta shop at...

The hotel was our first disappointment highly rated on Travel Advisor and supposedly excellently situated. It was little more then a hostel with a long narrow walk up. The night manager tried to put us in a single room with one double bed, not exactly what we had arranged. The night manager had no English and it took a wile,...

We stayed 2 nights Oct 5-7 at start of Argentina visit. Hotel undergoing renovation which means some rooms are likely to be better than others (our was probably not one of the better). Positives are friendly, helpful owner & staff, relatively safe area and congenial evening bar. Negatives would be chance of room with major toilet problems. When we flushed...

I learned about Hotel Costa Rica through my research on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try, because the price was hard to beat. I spent 2 weeks traveling in South America and Buenos Aires was my last stop. I found the city to be a bit overwhelming for a 3 day stay, but the friendly and resourceful...

Staying in Palermo

Neighbourhood Profile
Palermo
Best known as the largest neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Palermo is divided into different quarters, each with its own unique identity. The high-end quarter is Palermo Chico, characterized by magnificent mansions, regal avenues, and exclusive apartment buildings, and home to the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), a favourite amongst locals. The largest park in the city, the Bosques de Palermo, is Palermo's most famous landmark and a popular destination for nature walks, picnics, rollerblading, and cycling. The scene becomes much trendier in Palermo Soho, a hip area known for its cool cafés and unique design stores, filled with shoppers on weekends; and Palermo Hollywood, renowned for the numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs, which make it the preferred spot for nights out and special occasions.

“If you are renting on the spot, it doesn't hurt to ask to look at the room. None of them have great views, that I could see. You can save by booking online well in advance. At the hotel, you can offer to pay cash and get a good discount or possibly even the on-line rate.”
