Detailed Reviews
The hotel is in a great location in a very smart and safe part of Buenos Aires. We didn't like the decor particularly and the service is very "chain" like as opposed to the excellent attention you receive in boutique hotels. As we had spent the last month travelling all over Chile in luxury boutique hotels, we were rather disappointed. There are other hotels which I think would have suited us better. Breakfast was messy and the service poor although the staff were very friendly and tried hard. e.g. the Nespresso machine was always out of water and the chef not always at the live cooking station so you had to wait until they saw you through the glass from the main kitchen. The hotel coffee was undrinkable. There are many sofas and very low chairs in the breakfast area which are totally impractical as you end up with the table edge just below your chin! A fancy interior decorator's idea which does not work at all. We saw many guests remark on this. Housekeeping and the bar were fine. The sitting room area in our suite was spartan and functional with no ambience whatsoever. Guest Relations were a shambles, sending welcome amenities for one when we were two and other things. We mentioned this twice and despite assurances that they would be rectified nothing happened, so we just gave up. No management presence at all over our four night stay so maybe this has something to do with the messy service and untrained staff. Although rated as Very Good, we would not return as there are many other options on the same street in this excellent location. Concierge Desk was inconsistent. Octavio, was excellent but on his day off, a lady Concierge actually booked our Teatro Colon tour on the wrong day!! Bellboy service and security were excellent. Our check-in was very perfunctory. I think we have been spoiled by the excellent boutique hotels we are used to. The lighting in the bedroom was awful with only two inadequate bedside reading lights and one other standing lamp. No light above the long mirror and no other lighting anywhere. There are some great restaurants very near to the hotel and we tried four of them, all recommended by the Concierge who knew his stuff!

Stayed at Sofitel courtesy of my cruise package. Very nice hotel, quiet, comfy bed, very clean, a step up from the pre-cruise hotel and more conveniently located. Across the street from Patio Bullrich, an upscale mall with a food court. Luxurious bathroom in marble with shower separate from tub, includes a washcloth and over-sized amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion). Easy checkin/check-out. One bottled water is complimentary in the room.
The breakfast buffet organized by the cruise package was extensive and delicious, including an omelette station.
This hotel's gem: the lovely garden accessible out the side door on the 1st floor; serene and peaceful and gorgeous.

Stayed here at start and end of a Gate 1 tour, 5 nights total. Lots of other tour/cruise groups use this hotel, so it is up to western standards. The air con in our room worked great and was easy to adjust and responsive. Beds were comfy, although my second mattress needed to be flipped - room 1510 - management take note! Bathroom is huge and not newly styled, but everything was clean and worked. Breakfast has a lot of variety and is served in a room with gorgeous blue sofas and a stunning ceiling sculpture. Dining room food is some good and some not good. Pizza is only available from room service, not in the dining room, but don't bother. Lovely bar and good bar food. Sandwiches and pastries in the cafe are good. Great location to walk to restaurants and shopping; notice large mall with good food court directly across the street. Arranged a massage with the concierge - very nice, not expensive. Staff very helpful and friendly. Lovely outdoor patio in back. Would stay here again without hesitation.

Okay so yes I am out and about in South America, Argentina to be precise and of course travelling with my now 11 year. I booked the Sofitel on the recommendation of Ponant with whom it turns out I am travelling with next. The Sofitel Buenos Aires Recoleta is very much understated elegance, aka "The French Way" most if all staff are at least bilingual, nothing is a problem from recommending where to shop (and where not to) advice regarding local restaurants, the minutia of taxi travel and price expected, not to mention he assistance received from the Business Centre when attempting to obtain some documents to close an important business deal. The Sofitel Buenos Aires Recoleta is located in Recoleta, very safe and upmarket area. When you are next in Buenos Aires I suggest that you sent up camp here and enjoy this as your base to explore further.

This hotel employee very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was very large and had a high standard of (French) items such as shower gels etc, included. Our room was large and immaculately presented.
The hotel is within a short work of famous sites to visit.
We at at the little bistro, which is part of the hotel. The food was delicious and of high quality....but you must try something from the wide range of patisseries available for your delight. We found this to be a reasonably priced meal.

We have stayed at several Accor group hotels around the world and been members of their rewards scheme for many years, but I am sad to say the Sofitel Recoleta did not meet the standards we expected, particularly given its 5 star rating.
On the second night of our stay we returned to the hotel at 21:10 and wanted to relax with a coffee before turning in for the night. We knew the main restaurant and bar were closed for refurbishment but felt sure we could order coffee in the temporary restaurant on the ground floor, where a few people were dining. The waiters told us coffee wasn’t available there and said to try the adjoining bar. In the bar the helpful barmaid said they didn’t serve coffee and suggested the coffee shop (but that had closed at 21:00) then the restaurant (already rejected) or room service, but we only have one chair in our room so hardly the venue for an end of evening relaxing drinks. When we went up to our room we found we only had a single coffee sachet, so didn’t bother with coffee that night. When we arrived the day before, we had been greeted at reception with “Bonjour” “because we are a French hotel”, I can imagine the reaction of an actual French guest being told coffee was not available after 21:00.
The bath towels in our room were very worn, thin and frayed on the edges, hardly those expected from a 5 star hotel. The attached picture shows the frayed edge and a label which suggests it was made in October 2011. We went to a friends room on the 11th floor (he had been upgraded to a suite after complaining about his original room) and his towels were newer looking and of a quality we would have expected in a quality hotel.
Our original checkin experience was very poor. The hotel simply couldn’t cope with the large number of guests arriving from our cruise ship, and we had a long wait after the 15:00 advertised available room time, and then were annoyed that couples who checked in after us were allocated rooms before us. We waited for our bags to be delivered to our room but gave up and had to go into concierge store to get our bags and take them up to our room ourselves, a task made even more difficult by the hotel only having 2 guest lifts serving 18 floors, totally inadequate when the hotel was as busy as it was during our visit.

We stayed before and after our Gate1 travel tour. The hotel was fairly busy, but the staff was excellent and we didn't notice any delays. Rooms were comfortable, but bathroom set up (shower, toilet, bidet) was cramped in one room. The breakfast buffet was excellent plenty of choices with cook to order option. The restaurant had very big portions with local and American options. We enjoyed the bar and their menu had a good selection of tapas (we tried each one) empanadas were our favorite. The pool was closed when we were there, although there is an exercise room and locker room accompanying the area. I would recommend the Sofitel.

We visited Argentina in December thru the holidays. Sofitel was selected for us by our travel agency and we were very happy. Very clean, awesome breakfasts every morning and the rooms were comfortable, spacious and nicely apportioned.
Hotel was very helpful, providing some small snack items upon arrival and they took care of our needs (minimal but they took care of us). Mr. Sebastian (Hotel Catering Manager) was especially accommodating when we had a request to hold our room just a while longer than usual during our final day.
We had 2 rooms near each other as requested.
We spent New Year’s Eve at the onsite restaurant and were very happy with the dinner, music, and how we were treated.
I would recommend this hotel if you are in BA.

The day we got there were three cruise line companies arriving and one large operator departing. We had to wait an hour beyond the 3PM check-in because the rooms weren’t ready. After an hour, our bags did not arrive as promised. We had to go down to the basement to locate our luggage amongst the hundreds of others & take them upstairs ourselves. Many other people had to do the same. The hotel has only 2 elevators for 18 floors -with about 20 rooms on each floor. There were long waits to get into an elevator that only holds five or six people. And then it stops on almost every floor.
We went to the bar lounge for a drink at 6 o’clock, and were told that there would not be a bartender until 730. Another night there was only one bartender with 20 people in the lounge waiting for their drinks. Housekeeping would leave only one face wash cloth. I requested two washcloths per day then did not receive any. The staff are nice but they are incredibly understaffed for such a busy cruise line-based operation. Perhaps better management would help, but it was not a relaxing enjoyable environment.

We arranged this stay through our cruise line. Our initial impression getting off the bus was modern, upscale hotel in great location. It was all that. However, customer service was lacking. Yes, they did all that an hotel would do. They did offer us coffee and juice in a room with barely enough seating. They did hold our luggage for us until our room was ready However, communication was lackluster. We constantly had to check in to see if our room was ready and things seemed to be in a constant state of confusion. The room itself was fine. No complaints there. My only complaint was it seemed no one went out of their way to accommodate any of the guests who just came off the cruise.
