When one is tired of being treated as a herd - as it happens even in five star properties - Algodon Mansion is your choice! It feels like your stylish home, old world elegance, spacious suites, attentive service (even when attention to details not (yet) always top notch) and a very convenient location. Extremely helpful staff. And with it's own...

We've been to a lot of places and stayed in a lot of nice hotels. I don't usually bother to write reviews. But this place is great. Incredibly relaxing, great location, and impeccable service. We rolled in after trekking in Patagonia and we were battered and scruffy and we still got great service. That's the kind of thing that makes...

Location: urban, upscale area of Buenos Aires. Appearance: this is truly a mansion. Arrival: hotel arranged pick-up from the airport. Service was excellent. Check-In: Seamless and professional. Lobby: The main lobby was small and intimate, and beautifully decorated, consistent with a boutique-style hotel. There seats to relax with a drink in front of the bar and tables at which to...

With the exception of the breakfast service (more on that later) we loved our stay in the elegant Algodon. Let me say from the outset that if you enjoy a grandiose lobby, gorgeous public spaces and a generally lively lobby/bar scene, you will not be happy here, and you should look elsewhere. At the Algodon, the entry way and small...

The Algodon Mansion is a cute and charming small hotel with caring service and helpful, professional staff. We stayed five nights and our fourth level room was large, well equipped and very comfortable and quiet. The hotel is conveniently located in the largely residential area of Recoleta. The area is with in easy walking distance of many excellent restaurants. On...

Our suite is huge (#6) and the Italian-style marble bathroom is the biggest I have ever seen - you could fit a large family into the shower in one go! The decor is modern and tasteful and the room feels warm and cosy. We were welcomed with a complementary bottle of wine from the hotel's own estate! Check-in was absolutely...

Just returned from amongst other places a trip to Buenos Aires where we stayed at this cracking little place. We settled on the Algodon Mansion based on the reviews on TA, which were supplemented with further research using specialist South American brochures and were not disappointed. We booked through a booking agency but immediately opened a line of communication with...

Totally remodelled old family mansion in the Recoleta district. We had room #7 which a good size sitting area, huge bedroom and a gigantic bathroom with a bath and shower. All of the fixtures are new and modern and tasteful. The decor is very tasteful while providing a cozy and warm feeling.......and you are initially greeted to a bottle of...

What a lovely and special hotel in BA's gorgeous Recoleta neighborhood. It has just 10 rooms, which gives it a cozy, intimate feel. Rooms are generously sized, bathrooms are large and have oversized marble showers and beautiful deep-soaking tubs. I stayed in the Ambassadeur suite on the first floor and highly recommend it, as it's the only one in the...

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
