Detailed Reviews
In the beautiful countryside of Alentejo, not far from the coast, you can find an amazing location hosted by wonderful people.
Owners Vera and Cam were outstanding hosts, booking us for example for a horse ride or a private dinner in the local village. They have lots of tips on what to do (and eat) and it's refreshing to see them put the focus on eco-tourism and helping local businesses. They have a great location with many fruit trees, which they encourage you to pick. Also, I have never seen such a clear starry night. The absence of night (and regular) polution is incredible to see.
I cannot recommend this enough and will definitely be returning for more!

If you want to get away from the noisy city life for a bit, you owe it to yourself to come here. From the moment you enter the property you feel like you're coming home to family. Cam and Vera are outstanding hosts, and take pride in ensuring your stay here is relaxing and/or activity filled. You can take a short drive to one of the near by beaches/beach towns and check out the water and cafes/bars, or check out a near by organic winery. If you don't want to drive you can work out in the gym, do yoga on the platform at the top of the hill on the property, explore the property, or walk to the small town near by and the trail around it. Afterwards you'll fall fast asleep in one of their cozy beds and at least for me stay in a deep restful sleep since there was no city noise/lights to wake me up. I look forward to my next visit back here soon!

Just returned from 4 nights at Qunita Camarena as part of the SLB Activation fitness retreat. I stayed in one of the new Hillside Cuartos; it was airy and spacious with lots of natural light and a private balcony. My room had a comfortable bed, plenty of storage area for my clothes, and the shower had great water pressure. The Hillside Cuartos are a short uphill walk from the Camtina area, down a pine needle covered path past The Ground. Vera was a lovely hostess and her passion for the land is evident. From the fresh fruit from native fruit trees served at breakfast to the local textiles in the rooms, you immediately feel immersed in the local area. As part of our itinerary, we enjoyed a traditional tapas dinner at 100 Pressas in Cercal, a tasting at the Herdade do Cebolal winery, and a beach workout day in Vila Nova de Milfontes. Our dinners at Camtina featured rotating local chefs including Cafe Nativa, Chef Ann, and Chef Rafael. Each delicious meal was plant based and satisfying and the chefs explained the local ingredients and products. Caring hosts, peaceful surroundings, environmental mindfulness, endless activities, and nourishing meals were the perfect recipe for a reset – I’d return to Quinta Camarena in a heartbeat!

I recently returned from a trip to Portugal, part of which I spent at Quinta Camarena. I was not part of the group yoga retreat but came on my own to enjoy the property and its activities at my own pace. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the moment I arrived.
First, all communication was conducted via WhatsApp, and I was informed that the kitchen was closed—despite my stay including daily breakfast. No compensation or voucher was offered, and I was simply directed to eat in town. When I inquired about joining activities like hiking, surfing, and a massage, I received confirmation for the hike and massage, but communication was inconsistent and frustrating.
The owner, Cam, avoided direct communication regarding the hike until as late as 5:30 PM the day before. On the day of the hike, there was complete radio silence. The same issue occurred with the surf class—promises to confirm were made, but they never followed through. This lack of communication made it clear that the place is not suited for solo travelers or anyone not part of the group retreat.
Sauna room was not available for use. This was also shared after my arrival. Its details such as these that should be shared during booking. I don't understand why mislead your clients?
Quinta Camarena should be transparent about this in their advertising, as the service, communication, and overall experience were well below expectations. I had booked a 6 days stay and was told that cleaning would occur every 4 days; however, no one showed up until the 6th day. Frustrated with the lack of service, I decided to leave a day early.
I did not expect to be treated so poorly, especially after paying for my stay. The subpar service and communication made it a highly discouraging experience, and I would not recommend this place to anyone outside of their group retreats.

Response from Cam Camarena, Owner at Quinta Camarena
Responded 3 weeks ago
First Nejat, We want to apologize if your stay here was subpar, and did not meet your expectations. Within the email exchange leading up to your stay, we did encourage you to join the retreat since you did ask about joining the group activities, and if not joining the retreat, then a rental car would be a very smart option, giving yourself the freedom to move freely, at your pace, as you say. We clearly let you know that space is limited and to get in on many of the group activities, we'd first give priority to the people who did sign up for them, and if there is still space or a participant opted not to go we could then fit you in. Which is why we did recommend the rental car. You chose NOT to accept any recommendations and just assumed you'd be able to slide in and out of activities and meals as you felt. And on some occasions, you were able to, and had it been a smaller group, this would have been easier for all. But since you chose to be on your own, you do have to take some responsibility for yourself.I can tell you that resources in this small rural town are limited and arrangements are best when done in advance. Communication was difficult when you asked us to arrange, and then cancel transportation numerous times. But to address your concerns; when you say you had to 'FIGURE OUT' breakfast, do you mean, figure out how to communicate with Sol the Venezuelan woman who puts out a lovely breakfast each morning? Her English is limited, but the breakfast part should be straightforward... Just like every other day, same place same time... The Sauna: We are asked by the town hall (the City) not to use the sauna from mid-July until approximately the 1st week of Sept. This area is a very High Risk Fire Zone, that also suffers from drought. So collectively we all take precautions to do what we can. I apologize if my communication immaturity did not reflect the importance of why we do not use the Sauna during this certain time of year when temperatures reach above 30 degrees C.That said, If you'd like to try again, we have made you, your own personal discount code. Use CODE: 1STARGUEST at checkout and it will either discount or add a percentage to put towards your next visit.Again, sorry if it was not as fulfilling as you would have liked.best of luck in the future.

I stayed at Quinta Camarena as part of a group trip with Much Better Adventures.
Vera and Cam were wonderful hosts. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to make the very most of your holiday - be that arranging additional activities or providing great local recommendations.
Whether you are staying in the house or the new hillside rooms, you will be very comfortable and the grounds provide the perfect retreat from city life.
Every meal was a delight, made with local, organic, seasonal ingredients, full of flavour and a genuine highlight of my stay at Quinta Camarena.
I loved the community and sustainable ethos they have developed here and it is clearly something they are both very passionate about.
Already thinking about when I can return!

Our family of 4 had an amazing stay at this wonderfully calming, authentic property. Both Vera and Cam go out of their way to ensure you are welcomed and thought of throughout your stay, and the venue offers fitness options, a great pool and access to the wonderful beaches of Alentejo. You won't be disappointed....

A wonderful life affirming experience…upon arrival first impressions are a rustic set up…a few more steps in and you get embraced by the brilliance of Quinta Camarena. I had opted for the five day not so serious yoga retreat; the clue is in the title. This may not be for the hard-core yoga retreat types; this was my first one so I arrived with a degree of trepidation which was quickly dismissed by the fantastic greeting by the wonderful Vera and Cam. Their amazing hospitality continued throughout the five days. Nothing was too much trouble and their authenticity is heart-warming in this crazy world.
The food was sublime, I am shifting towards a vegetarian diet, have read all the books I can about moving from a ultra-high processed diet and wow did this retreat deliver, delicious wholesome food, always plentiful and diverse at every meal. I’m hooked.
I arrived with two friends but if you are a solo traveller don’t be put off, we were in the minority, half of the retreat were solo travellers but from the first meal it wasn’t evident as one of the added benefits was varied conversations between different nationalities …all made possible by the environment that has been created at Quinta Camarena.
We shared the ground floor of one of the houses, perfect for the three of us, but having had the most amazing massage in one of the ‘new rooms’ I will be treating myself to that next time. They are simple, sustainable luxury.
Let’s talk about yoga…ive dipped in and out of it, wanted to commit, never quite felt it was quite ‘me’….I have returned a convert. Others have mentioned the fantastic experience of the yoga platform and the superb teacher, I can add little to their comments other than to echo them.
The ‘trips’ were great, I didn’t think we’d join in with them all but we did; the local leather shop, the weaver, the pottery and the inspirational vineyard, bio diverse, delicious and oh so very reasonable.
In amongst all that we managed afternoons on local beaches, swimming in the sea, aperol and sangria in nearby bars…..a simply brilliant trip…all facilitated by this magical place and hosts.
I cannot wait to return.

I had a fantastic stay at Quinta Camarena for a not-so-serious yoga and hiking holiday. Vera and Cam are very welcoming hosts and care deeply about sustainability and the local area. They have a real focus on locally sourced food and drink, with an excellent selection of local wines and soft drinks.
This is the perfect place if you want to get away from the typical tourist spots, but there’s still plenty to do. It’s a short walk to the local town with a good selection of restaurants and a short drive to the beach, and other activities like paddle boarding and horse riding are on offer too. I did a couple of hikes with a local guide who was very knowledgeable about the area.

Had a wonderful stay here, the accommodation was very spacious and comfortable, had everything we needed. Close to the small town and not far from Milfontes where there are many restaurants and a beautiful beach. The hosts Cam and Vera were accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We would love to return in the summer as there were great facilities including a swimming pool and bbq area.
