Stayed here for two nights, it wasn't worth the drive. There is a country charm with this place but we felt like we were staying at an Amish resort. Bar the Ostrich bobotie, the food was atrocious (a ham and cheese omelette that looked like a heart attack on a plate!). Staff were friendly, at times a bit over attentive...

We stayed here for one night in December and were sorry to leave. It's such a beautiful setting and our room was so unique and peaceful that we would liked to have stayed another night. Our room (one of several white cottages in beautiful grounds) was huge, the décor was full of character and the attention to detail was incredible....

We stayed one night at De Opstal during our trip along the garden route. The hotel/guesthouse was easily in the worst 3 places I've ever stayed in. From a haphazard check in, to an old crusty, unclean room to a total shambles at dinner, this is one place to avoid. For example, our bed sheets had holes in them and...

Myself and a travelling companion stayed here for just one night. It looked beautiful during the day with a beautiful garden dotted with small little cottages. We arrived late evening as did two other guests. The restaurant was closed and, as we were out of town somewhat, there were no nearby restaurants. However the lady in reception kindly called a...

Our tour guide didn't give us much information about this property and said it was not what we may be used to. He said they had outdoor showers?! Not sure what to expect but when I got into our room, saw two beds, antique furniture, little knick knacks and peaked into the bathroom and no shower! Then I noticed a...

This hotel has lovely grounds, albeit not huge, which have been filled with eclectic items. The rooms are large and well appointed and the al fresco tea/coffee/cookies fridge set up unusual but appealing. The restaurant was nicely set-up and the food was inventive and well presented. as we found everywhere in South Africa the service was friendly and helpful to...

We stayed one night at this lovely inn. We were welcomed on arrival and taken to our charmingly rustic cottage room, where we had a massive king sized bed and a single in a big room with seating area, TV and a couple of comfortable arm chairs. The bathroom was equally delightful with a whirlpool tub and separate shower, and...

We only stayed one night at this hotel which is in a beautiful setting. The room was excellent and the welcome acceptable. However, the bed was like sleeping on the floor and the top sheet had holes in it - very poor! The food was also dismal, it was cold and undercooked. The choice of starter was limited to one...

A few kilometres out of town but a quaint stay in individual cottages with en suite. Great evening meal in the large country dining room with open wood fires for cooking. The Lodge uses produce from their own garden and gives the visitor a chance to try local meats including ostrich. A different stay from the normal hotel or motel...

Touring in South Africa 5 We departed Cape Town on a cool wet morning heading East through Cape Flats and climbing into the mountains where we were to pass through a five kilometre tunnel into a completely different world. Gone was the lush semi tropical fields, instead we found a land with vertical rock strata rising it seemed into the...
