I called Outeniqua Travel Lodge yesterday to enquire on the Backpacker option for a friend. Firstly the Owner informed me that he doesnt CATER FOR SOUTH AFRICANS! I asked why and his sarcastic response to this was: "SOUTH AFRICANS ARE NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL OF SOPHISTICATION AS THE EUROPEAN MARKET"!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ofcourse I am going to enquire on his thoughts...

Booked the accommodation based on the photos seen however we were only notified that they changed the premises after the booking and were somewhat disappointing. Rooms felt like your average university residence except that the bedding was better. The bathroom only had a bath and the handheld shower head was not fixed anywhere and the button to operate it had...

My daughter and I spent one night here. I can assure you this was the first time, and definitely the last! The TV was not working, and there was a lot of electric wires and extensions, which we first had to figure out what works where. The double bed linen was too small, and one duvet cover has a hole...

We enjoyed our one night stay. New venue for the lodge, renovated, formerly the Farmhouse, opened early June 2016 in new venue. Nicely decorated, clean rooms, nice bedding, everything you need in kitchen

My wife and I went to George 08-10 Apr. When we got Outeniqua Travel Lodge we realised that I made a mistake in the booking. I had mixed the dates up and accidentally booked the following weekend. The guy who dealt with us referred us to other possible lodges and said that he'll arrange that we are reimbursed for our...

I had made a reservation for our manager who drove from Cape Town to George, extremely exhausted after that drive and when he go to the guest house, the owner was extremely rude to him, we have never used this guest house before so my manager asked the owner politely to see what the room looks like, only to find...

According to their website, all single rooms were booked for my dates, hence no online-booking was possible. So I tried my luck and sent an email, hoping there were other options like a dorm room which also cannot be booked directly on their site. I was happy to hear then that as a matter of fact, they still did have...

We stayed in a room for a couple of nights for a connection to Wilderness. It was very basic, no air con, wifi was intermittent and most the time you had to sit in the living room to access the web. Because their was no air con or fan we had to have the windows open, and as a result...

We stopped here for a couple of nights whilst driving the garden route. The room was very nice with lots of space and good wifi. Although the kitchen and living area was shared, it was not a problem as it was spacious and had all the utensils we needed. Tea and coffee facilities were always available and there was lots...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Outeniqua Travel Lodge is well-loved for it's affordable (never ‘cheap’!) accommodation. Clean, cosy and convivial it has become a well known meeting place for independent travellers from all over the world. The style is like ‘spotting your professor in his t-shirt’. You will encounter professionalism and taste where it matters, but in a very gentle and laid-back atmosphere.Be warned, they are unashamedly snobbish. They won't charge you a lot of money but will require a lot of attitude, values and intellect!Ignore the grumpy owner (who is capable of faking a friendly smile now and again) and rather mix with the adventurous young guests. ... more   less
