It seems churlish to be critical about the view. Our room was perfect, in that we had a suite with dining room and lounge, a large bedroom with a kingsize bed and an enormous bathroom. Everything working, clean and tidy, well serviced. The location is minutes from the V&A Waterfront, and the breakfasts were good. We also ate twice in...

The Portwood is a hotel that. Seems to aspire to being a five-star hotel experience. Unfortunately, I would rate it more of a two. The rooms admittedly were furnished nicely. However, we asked for two beds, and they provided us with an inadequate king bed, which meant that the undersized pullout bed had to be used. They failed to provide...

Clearly hotels in Cape Town are not cheap. The Portswood is very conveniently located, 5 mins walk from the Waterfront. Very safe. Hotel valet parking included. Great breakfast. Small gym at the Commodore 2 mins away - free access. Overall though the place feels a little run-down. Half of the rooms look out onto a slightly busy road so a...

Such a lovey hotel - friendly attentive staff and very centrally situated to all that is the Waterfront. Spotlessly clean rooms, strong wi-fi and great food. Parking valet service was excellent and the Malay curries at the hotel restaurant were quite unique and very tasty.

We stayed here for 4 nights. An excellent location, situated just across the road from the V&A waterfront. We enjoyed the breakfasts and ate dinner here on Valentines night. Prior to our visit I had communication by email with the hotel regarding wheelchair hire and checking in early. Within minutes I received a reply on both of my queries. The...

This is nicely situated and an ideal base to do Cape Town stuff, obliging staff and easy parking etc. Always reassuring to have this hotel as a start and a finish to a tour of this coast of SA. Sister hotel next door with more facilities if required.

Stayed for three nights. Hotel in handy location for V&A but a little dated and staff a little disinterested. Lift not working for two nights and automatic door locks on rooms never worked and had to constantly find a member of staff to open the door. Breakfast acceptable. Nothing to really rave about but good enough. Would not stay here...

I stayed at Portswood Hotel for 4 nights. I was very pleased with the hotel. Best thing about it is the location, right next to the Waterfront, and the price is pretty fair. Only bad thing was the electronic key doors that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. But other than that, no complaints. Will recommend to others.

the Portswood Hotel is in an excellent location. It is within minutes of walking to the V&A waterfront, which has many excellent restaurants, bars and shops. The staff is very friendly and ready to assist with anything you need. We ate dinner at the restaurant one evening and the food was very tasty and reasonably priced. There is a lovely...
