We had the opposite experience to the previous reviewer. A large family group stayed and we found the service personal without being intrusive. The house is spacious and well appointed. The nearby pool is great. The guided game drives were knowledgeable. I'd recommend it.

A group of eight girls, myself included booked a bush house at the Kwa Mmatau wildlife reserve. The first group that arrived at the place got shouted at for getting lost in the reserve, even though the was no security guard present at the gate or anyone else to assist. The owners came and went as they wanted to at...

The reserve is well sign posted and the supplied guest information and pre arrival pack clearly sets out the required information regarding the reserve. The venue was left in a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Kwa Mmatau Wildlife Reserve where we are the custodians of an ancient heritage that we wish to share with you, a Wildlife Reserve with a difference. Here we offer the discerning, socially responsible eco traveller a diverse array of informative activities, giving first-hand experience of the bushveld and our ground-breaking efforts to conserve it. Sustainable Development and Restoration Ecology are the order of the day and we invite you to come and see for yourselves how we are working to ensure that generations to come inherit not only the legacy of our land, but also have the opportunity to enjoy the diverse flora and fauna. SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION The Bush House Shaded by the branches of a beautiful old Wild Olive tree, the Bush House is located on the edge of the western savannah boundary. The Ngwaritse River runs just below it. The luxury, serviced, self- catering Bush House can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests in considerable comfort. Apart from a huge kitchen including; a fridge, stove, freezer, oven, crockery and cutlery there is a large living area. The five rooms are furnished with double and/or twin beds, electric fans in summer and heaters for the winter months. Two en-suite bathrooms with a shower and toilet, and a third bathroom with a shower, bath and separate toilet complete the picture. All linens and towels are provided in each room as well as a hairdryer. The Bush House is also fully serviced twice daily. The outdoor patio of the Bush House overlooks a dam which occasionally holds water where a variety of birds gather during the cooler hours at dawn and dusk. A large reed-covered boma ideal for evening braais (BBQ), is a favourite place to sit by the fire and recount the day's activities while roasting marshmallows, counting stars or listening to the sounds of the night. The view from the Bush House at sunset is hard to beat. As a guest of Kwa Mmatau you will find it easy to become part of our "bush family" and are invited to join us on our daily rounds and take part in conservation in action. All indoor areas are a no smoking zone.Guests are welcome to smoke outside but need to be acutely aware of the potential fire hazard this may pose especially in late winter. Cashan Cottage Nestled on the edges of the savannah boundary of the Reserve, lies Cashan Cottage. With its uninterrupted views of the picturesque waterhole, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a uniquely South African experience. The original mud brick "Outspan Station" is named after Kgwashwane, the powerful chief of the Kwena Mmatau tribe. Built in the 1800's, for travellers wishing to rest their oxen, this beautiful cottage has recently been restored and refurbished into a luxury serviced, self-catering establishment. Perfectly suited for two couples or a family of four, Cashan Cottage is equipped with two en-suite bedrooms, with double beds, as well as electric fans and heaters for the winter. A big kitchen, dining room and living area lead onto a large patio - just the spot to marvel at a sunset that is hard to beat. With easy access to the kitchen, an outside Boma, with braai (BBQ) facilities, it's everyone's favourite place to unwind after the midday game drives. Sit back and listen to the sounds of the wildebeest at the waterhole, and let your mind go back in time to when it was a place of wilderness - promising yourself to respect the magnificence of nature. Secure parking is provided for all guests vehicles. GAME DRIVES Your Game Drive will include an educational tour of the reserve as well as an insight into our daily routine of conserving our environment. This drive is usually taken in the late afternoon with a guaranteed sunset on order. ... more   less
