This is a real friendly and quiet place to stay. First thing, the staff was very helpful. They gave us many advices about Durban, things to see and things to do, where to go or not. As we had to leave early in the morning, they managed to give us a take-away breakfast and to keep our luggages. The room...

I stayed at Gibela for three nights in a single room. The place is beautiful, clean and situated in a nice area of Durban. I did however miss the friendliness, feeling of generosity and welcoming atmosphere that I highly value. I checked in early, but was not allowed to use the communal showers before check in time. Also, wifi is...

Hello Halmanna Many thanx for the review. We do take care in the upkeep and cleanliness of our lodge and even during busy periods as New Year time things was spotless (as all guests commented) I think its a bit unfair to reprimand us for not being able to use facilities before check in time. You stayed in Durban the...

Great ambiance, real feeling of calm, got some incredible siestas in, loved the little touches, the deco, the pool ... Just exactly what was needed. Loved the fact that Gibela was close to Florida Rd, but not right on top of all the bars etc so it was easy to go out but also still protected and quiet. Close. To...

My wife and I spent 6 days staying at the Gibela Backpackers Lodge. It was comfortable and hospitable. Our host, was always available to provide guidance and advice for our activities in Durban, a wealth of information. I noticed that he provided the same help to everyone who arrived at Gibela. The pool was extremely clean, the breakfast was available...

Because it was pretty much fully booked we could only stay one night at Gibela, but we found it to be a very good place to stay in Durban. TOP CHOICE - Lonely Planet 2012 "If this hostel (a tastefully converted 1950's Tuscan home) were a B&B, it would be described as 'boutique'. One of Durban's best hostels, it has sparkling surfaces and rooms neat enough to pass an army major's inspection. It even provides a continental breakfast- to be enjoyed in an attractive indoor-outdoor dining area."
