A wonderful place to unwind after a day of work or sightseeing. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. Every morning we are treated to a fresh and cook-to-order breakfast completed with interesting and varied discussion with Howard and other guests. The grounds are beautifully maintained with a multitude of flowers, bushes and trees.

A rewarding pleasure of owning and running Durban Elephant is getting great reviews like this. I am pleased that we were able to make your stay here memorable. The garden is often underplayed in reviews so thank you especially for that mention. More

...and "peaceful, elegant and cultured." We arrived late in Durban after a long drive from Elliot. Howard welcomed us, showed my partner and I and our friends--another couple--to our rooms. We stayed in an upstairs room with a great view over the trees of the bay and the city. Our friends stayed in the wonderful garden apartment. Howard gave us... More

Thanks for a wonderful review. I am also pleased to have been able to make recommendations on where to go and what to do which you enjoyed. All in all Durban is a great city with many hidden gems off the main tourist route - guests just need to be steered in those directions. Breakfasts are a great place for... More

I spent a couple of nights at Howard's place, it has everything the weary traveller needs, my room was spacious and well appointed with a modern bathroom, comfy bed and lovely furniture. The house itself is located in a peaceful setting, with a great kitchen, delicious breakfast (eaten on the terrace with a view of the Durban harbour and skyline),... More

Thank you for all the kind words about Durban Elephant. Your posting is very reminiscent of the inscription we have on the front door: "Think, in this batter'd Caravanserai Whose Doorways are alternate Night and Day How Sultan after Sultan with his Pomp Abode his short Hour or two and went his way" (Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyan) More

I stayed in this lovely home - yes, that's what it looks and feels like - in March 2016 for a conference. It is a wonderfully maintained property, with the beautiful greenery of Durban preserved intact. I especially loved the garden, which is not too closely tended or trimmed and therefore maintains its brooding beauty. My host was a wonderful,... More

Thanks for the thoughtful posting - I particularly like your description of the garden. Although not within shouting distance, a number of restaurants are about a 5 to 10 minute walk away - and if you want to eat in (using the B&B kitchen) there is a great deli style of shop also that distance away. I am pleased that... More

This place is a relaxing respite from the city. Howard, the inn keeper, is a wonderful person and was very helpful in making my stay pleasant. We shared some great conversations and I'll definitely be back!

We visited Durban for the Comrades 2016 event. We were referred to D'urban Elephant House by a friend. Easy to find, beautiful area and central location made it a breeze to travel to the event as well as general sight seeing. Warm hospitality, excellent breakfast by Howard and staff. Thank you Howard for making our first Comrades event a memorable... More

Thanks for the great review but even more congratulations must go to you with the excellent result in your first Comrades Marathon - it is no mean feat in running between Pietermaritzburg and Durban and enjoying it and then finding the time and energy to still write an informative and praising review about d'Urban Elephant. Hope to see you again... More

Stayed here for 10 days on business and will definitely be back! Superb property with stunning grounds that I couldn't stop photographing, it was everything I wanted from an African stay and photos just cannot do this property justice! Howard was unbelievably brilliant and his staff were lovely. Would highly recommend staying here and I can't wait to go back!
