I was not sure what to expect as we arrived at Illyria House but what we found was beyond all expectations. This is not an average hotel. The facilities are from another era but work well for the 21st century. It was a stay of rest and calm. The staff managed everything for us from taxis to city tours to...

Our friend bought Groupon tickets and invited 8 of us for a "PetitTea" at Illyria House last Sunday. What a disappointment! It all started at the gate, where we had to ring the bell repeatedly before someone would open it. Sure, the wooden floors were immaculately polished and the collection of ornate wooden furniture, silver and porcelain objects on display...

Illyria House is a very small hotel set among embassies in what appears to be the most exclusive area of Pretoria. The hotel is a conversion of an old colonial mansion, and is absolutely beautiful. After a challenging taxi ride from the local Gautrain station, we were greeted warmly and surrounded by hardwood floors that had been shined to within...

On Saterdaynight I had my birthday function at Illyria House. What an amasing experience! From the old worldly charm of a main building with the elegance from a forgotten time- to the exotic hide away with orccids, far eastern furniture and recling couches with an authentic Maroccan flavour! The food was delicious ,served in elegant silver with a small group...

We returned to Illyria House after being away for some 11 years. Last time we stayed at Illyria House we had just completed the Rovos Train trip from Cape Town, this time we were ahead of our next Rovos train journey which would take us from Pretoria to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls. At Illyria House we were put up...

I had the pleasure of staying at Illyria House again this past week and was again blown away by this amazing place. The antiques here are amazing and I again was in wonder of the things I did not notice on previous visits, and I'm pretty sure I will be for many more visits. From the amazing staff that makes...

We visited Illyria House on Sunday for breakfast. Having frequented this establishment 4 times prior to this, I was sure that my partner would be blown away by the opulence and service of Illyria. I couldn't have been more wrong. It started when I telephoned Illyria to reserve our table for breakfast. Not only were they rude on the phone...

A more delightful place to stay I cannot recall. I felt like a guest in a friend's beautiful house - the surroundings are serene and lovely, the food is terrific, and the hostess and staff are gracious and attentive. You will be pleasantly surprised often.

My husband and I recently "experienced" two nights at the unique Illyria House in celebration of our 40th anniversary. We were really grateful to have been upgraded to the beautiful Catherine Suite as they were not full...it was the pics of this room that had sparked my interest in visiting this grande home of yesteryear! I hadn't realized when I...
