We stayed at this place on our trip to Johannesburg. It is situated in Melville, and walking distance to 7th Street where all the restaurants are. Getting from here to other places can be a bit daunting. The closest Gautrain station though is Park Station. The guesthouse itself has a simple room, with basic necessities. The room we got was...

Excellent location, just 2 block from 7th streerm where are located many bars and restaurants. Very friendly staff, with a great breakfast. The rooms are very clean, with a great decoration. Everything went perfect during my stay there! I would recommend for anyone going to Johannesburg

Visited in November 2012 and we were very satisifed with standards of the room, the service, and the staff. Cannot speak more highly of the staff. From the moment I made enquiries regarding their accommodation through a booking agent online, to the moment we left at the end of our stay we were treated with utmost courtesy and professionalism (even...

I recently stayed in the loft room which was quite nice. The stairs are steep so I definitely did not wish to carry my luggage down on departure. The staff were happy to do so. The bedding is pure cotton which is fantastic as so many places use poly-cotton these days. The weather was particularly cold while I was there...

I recently stayed in one of the downstairs rooms of this guesthouse for one night. On the plus side: good & quiet location, safe parking (with a guard doing the rounds at night) and good quality bedlinen- I slept like a baby. However, there are signs that the maintenance/housekeeping is letting the place down: stains and peeling of paint on...

As an owner of an establishment it is never nice to read reviews such as this. I will however attend to the matters pointed out by yourself and want to inform potential gusts that all towels have been replaced since and we have started a refurbishment programme in the meantime. It is obvious that some areas need more urgent attention. Koos...

Stayed here last week and to total of 4 nights between two visits. Rooms are small but effective. Liked had outside access to the rooms. Breakfast is nothing special! Location is close enough to the town of Melville, two block walk, if that is your destination. It is also close to Joburg. The area is different from what we are...

I feel so lucky to have The Melville Turret Guest House as my 'home' when I am working in Newtown. The welcome in gracious, the rooms are divine, the beds just fabulous. I've had the loft for a week which was like a Penthouse, just wonderful, but I also like rm 24 and 25, smaller but very cosy, I had...

Three of us from Australia stayed at Melville Turret in early September, 2011. We had an excellent stay and would highly recommend it. It was secure, pleasant and peaceful, and the breakfasts were fine. Part way through our three night stay, we were told that the loft room was available, for only a little extra cost, so two of us...

We stayed one night in the loft room, which is very romantic and spacious. Large and comfortable kingsize bed, the open plan room also includes lounge chairs, kitchenette with fridge, kettle, microwave, dinner service, glasses etc but no oven or hob. There is a large round dining table and four chairs. The bathroom has both bath and walk in shower,...
