A nice and safe place to stay if you want to visit Johannesburg. In Melville a few nice restaurants and bars are within walking distance. The first day the owner took us by car to the center, excellent service. But you can also take a bus (Rea Vaya) to Johannesburg.

Myself and three friends recently spent five nights at the Gecko. It's a clean place. The breakfast is good but what really sets it apart are the friendly guys who work that. They were especially helpful, genuinely nice and made our stay in Jo'Burg both safe and enjoyable. And Boris the dog is an absolute sweetheart. Go visit.

Greg and his staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Greg collected us from the airport early in the morning and we were able to check into our room straight away. The room was lovely, and a very good size. The restaurants and shops of Melville are right on the doorstep. I would definitely stay here...

I'm very used to finding a place and staying there whenever I go. I didn't book the Sleepy Gecko myself and so I was concerned. However, my entire stay was great. We were well looked after, breakfast was great and the rooms were awesome! In addition the staff are friendly and even opened a bar for us. The famous 7th...

We stayed only one night at Sleepy Gecko, but we would have definitely liked to stay there more. Greg the owner is a very nice person, ha came to pick us up directly as the airport (instead to send a driver) so he gave us a lot of information about Jo'burg. The room was very nice (we had the Amarula),...

The Sleepy Gecko was a great choice for our first night in SA. It was a little tricky to find at night (due to hard-to-see street signs), but the neighbourhood was nice and safe and had lots of restaurants and bars within 1-2 blocks from the house. The rooms and beds were VERY comfortable, and the house kitties even snuggled...

I stayed at the guesthouse for a South African team retreat and it was great. The rooms were spacious and clean and i had the most gorgeous bathroom. We also made use of the conference facility and the owner Nigel really did cater to our needs. The team was made up of the 5 of us with all 5 different...

The owners of this cute guesthouse were so generous, helpful, and wonderful to me during my stay. They gave me suggestions on where to go and where not to go, sent a car to pick me up from downtown when I was stranded, and even drank wine with me when I had no plans. It's also in a cute, quaint,...

I have stayed at Sleepy Gecko for a number of weeks and really enjoyed it. The staff are friendly and always eager to assist. The guest house is quiet and you have the options of being social or have quiet time on your own if you wish.
