The Bannister Hotel is an independant, luxury-budget hotel in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Across Mandela Bridge from the inner-city, the district is one of the most exciting area of Johannesburg for artists, foodies (we are opposite The Neighbourgoods Market), hipsters, musicians (The Orbit Jazz Club is 30m away!), academics & many of Joburg's corporate and government head offices. The hotel and our restaurant and bar are casual, warm and welcoming, a second home to our regular guests. If you are seeking the exciting experience that Johnnesburg and it's people can be, The Bannister Hotel is the key to unlocking the true vibrancy of the Africa's most 'woke' city. There are a number of great bars and places to eat in the immediate neighbourhood. We are also close several galleries, theaters, museums & the cities transport networks.

Our restaurant and food always get good reviews (rated 4.2 out of 5 on Facebook!), so your derision comes as a surprise. I am sorry you had such a bad experience, and mistakes of course do happen. Did you bring it to the manager on duty's attention, so they could attend to your problem? Of course, there is always room for improvement and we strive to achieve the highest standards always. Rest assured, all our wonderful chefs are well trained. Our chairs have never received a complaint before, but I will have a very stern word with them about their performance.

The hotel staff made up for the lack of necessary facilities/features. No aircon means no sleep. We can't close the windows because we were desperate to get some wind from outside but the noise then became unbearable. If you want to party and sleep late this hotel is for you,

Really enjoyed my stay here. The room was cozy and the beds extremely comfortable. The food from the attached restaurant was lovely (as was the free breakfast). friendly staff and a really cool shower with lights that changed colour. A+ would do again.

Hi Thats not a problem we normally have. It has happened when the laundry was delivered late. If it happens the front desk should explain and offer them a coffee. Did you have such a problem?

Morning John We have Newtown Junction a kilometer away, however I would recommend Rosebank Mall, which is 7.4km away. It has a wide variety of shops catering to all needs. We dont have our own airport shuttle, however you can download the Uber app, which is very reasonable and reliable. Alternatively, we can give you the number of a reliable cab driver.

Do you offer day rooms?
We are about 400 meters away from the Main Campus entrance. Google maps says its a 5 minute walk.
