Our visit to Talkeetna exceeded expectations. The village itself is quaint, and is apparently a popular spot for the Alaska cruisers in season. We arrived during break up, right after the rivers had thawed and before the arrival of larger crowds. It’s difficult to describe this place as it has a charm of its own, with plenty of history and...

The roadhouse is an institution in the tourist 'mecca' that seems to be Talkeetna. Small room with shared (very clean) showers packed into a compact building. Great wifi, free tea and coffee all day make this a great choice for a stay in Talkeetna. We didnt eat there but the place was packed from breakfast to lunchtime. Friendly staff (who...

The old roadhouse has rooms inside with a great bakery, restaurent. We stayed in trapper Johns Cabin, about 1/2 mile down the street. A great old cabin with two queen (double?) beds in one room with tv, gas stove and record player. The middle room us a good sized kitchen. The bathroom has an old fashioned tub. If you are...

We were a group of 5 and rented a two-bed room in the main house and the Little cabin in the back for three persons. We were on our way to Denali National Park, and due to bad weather, our flight was postponed. Staff was very friendly, flexible and easy-going and we were able to have the same rooms as...

Thank you so much for your review! More than anything we hope that our version of frontier hospitality more than makes up for authentic creaky floors and all the other quirks that come along with a nearly 100 year old Alaskan roadhouse. We're so grateful to have guests from all over the world come through the door and it give...

We really enjoyed our stay in the Museum Apartment. The apartment was clean and well appointed with everything we needed. We were very sorry that we only had one night in Talkeetna, would have loved a few more nights. The breakfast was amazing.

We stayed at this place as part of an overnight northern lights/dog sledding package we did with Salmon Berry tours. The place was very clean and homey. The room we stayed in was a bit small but more than enough space for an overnight trip. It had a small sink in the corner and a shared shower/bathroom in the hall....

I just fell in love with this place. First, everyone is laid back and make you feel welcome. I have stayed here three times now and beyond a comfortable place to rest your head I have noticed that it is more than a place for travelers. The Roadhouse is also a destination place for locals...be it for checking their email,...

First, if you are looking for place with no character, then try a Four Seasons or a Hyatt in a resort town! However, if you dig historic places that are rustic and less than perfect condition, but nonetheless comfortable and have a great staff, then the Talkeetna Roadhouse fits the bill! We were greeted by the very amiable Innkeeper that's...

I've stayed in a regular room and the climbers room (hostel style with bunk beds) and both are awesome for the price. First, don't expect anything modern or fancy. This is Alaska after all. Second, they let you wander around the main room, offer board games, a fire, coffee, hot chocolate, and tea to all guests all night long. Third,...

So cute! From the outside in...Decorated casual comfy. Lots of movies to pick from, board games, or free wifi, coffee pot, tea kettle, everything you might need. Three of us stayed 1 night and there is plenty of space for stretching and/or privacy after being cooped up in the car. You are right in town, can walk to brew houses,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roadhouse, built around 1917, is one of the oldest establishments still in operation on Main Street in "Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna." Our kitchen is open to the public and we've become famous for big breakfasts, hearty soups, homebaked breads and genuine frontier hospitality. Our bakery produces all sorts of treats each day such as pies, a variety of cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, brownies, and savory pasties. The historic end-of-the-road town of Talkeetna is known today throughout the world as the base for international climbers making their way to climb Denali (Mt. McKinley), North America's tallest peak. Denali and the other peaks of the Alaska Range offer a magnificent backdrop for this picturesque town of around 800 people, located about two and a half hours north of Anchorage and halfway between Anchorage and Denali park entrance both by rail and road. The guest rooms range from private to hostel-style, rustic cabins to the school teacher's apartment located above the Talkeetna Historical Society Museum. Bathrooms are "down the hall" in typical Roadhouse fashion, and even though a bathroom has been added to Trapper John's Cabin, guests can still use its 5-Star outhouse! Breakfast is a separate charge but we provide our guests with coffee/cocoa/tea throughout their stay. ... more   less
