Pumpkin Hotel is great. We arrived at 5 am and knocked on the doors and the owner came right down and let us in! The rooms were clean. A little moist, but what isn't in the rainy season of Sa Pa? The guy even helped us book a tour for the day last minute! We checked out the morning of the tour and we came back muddy, he offered us a room to shower in for free and let us leave our bags in the building till 10 pm. Super great service and very accommodating!
For starters, we were able to check in as soon as we arrived at 530 am! The room was clean and spacious, and the hotel manager was very friendly and MORE than accommodating. Booked an inexpensive and very inclusive day tour through this hotel which made thah experience very easy and enjoyable. Oh, and the breakfast was delicious!
Stayed for 4 nights, room was clean and spacious, the manager and wife both speak good English and were helpful in booking trekking tours as well as bus tickets, would definitely stay again, close to the main street and was easy walking distance to all the restaurants and bars
We stayed here for two nights, our room was clean on arrival however felt slightly damp. In the bathroom there was a small hole in the wall which we could see outside, so not great for insects etc. Our room was not cleaned at all during our stay, meaning that we had to use the same damp towels as the previous day and had no toilet roll left. Staff were friendly and helpful, allowing us to leave our bags on our last day while we went to explore.
It was not too dirty, but not really clean as well. There was a stain on a towel and pillow cover, and I could smell a toilet on a bed. A bed was a bit bumpy but here is cheap, so it is okay. And location is not bad. hard to find, (Do not trust a google map, this is wrong. Recommend to ask someone.) but it was quite easy to get city, catcat village, and Hamlong mt. HOWEVER, I found a few serious problems. First, I ate a breakfast there in the morning (it was really good.), and a lady staff said it is 60,000. But it was actually 50,000. yeah, the lady said 10,000 more. You have to remember and check a price before you pay. (A guy host came to us later and said it is 50,000) Second, I didn't have smaller money, so I gave a lady staff 200,000. And she said she doesn't have a change and just stared at me. But as you know, I already paid for it! Anyway, I told her I don't have a smaller money, and she said "Show me". Yeah, She wants to see my WALLET! It sounds like I was telling her lie. (I just had 50,000VND for smaller note and she said this is not enough - cuz she said it is 60,000 - and a guy host took 50,000 later as I said) Third, I bought a SIM card without a phone calling service, just for internet. I had to call my Vietnamese friend, so I asked a lady staff politely to use the phone. And she asked "is it Vietnamese number?" I said Yes, and she asked me to show her my friend's number. It felt totally bad. I showed her my friend's number, she just stared me for few seconds and just pointed a phone. HAHA. Anyway, If I'd go Sapa again, I wouldn't stay here and I'll never recommend to my friends. It was cheap, room was big, and a guy host (owner) was friendly, BUT the lady staff just made everything uncomfortable.…
