Kalapa is a collection of restored vernacular houses, each with elegant interiors imbued in a distinctly indigenous aesthetic and sensibility. By keeping their integrity and original form, the houses reflect ancestral wisdom and cultural climate of traditional Indonesian architecture. The resort functions as an introductory to the region's rich cultures and its vibrance. The emerald pool stretches toward infinity, with an unobstructed view of the rice terraces and watching the rural Bali life first hand, a transporting journey to a simple tropical life. This impressive resort allows each guest to have bespoke experiences in the extravagance of profound peace and tranquility.

Quiet, small resort tucked away from busy Canggu. This hotel had a lot of nice aspects: lovely grounds, two nice pools, short drive to bars/restaurants. It also seemed like good value with free yoga, free airport drop off, and none of the extra amenities being very expensive compared to some other hotels I visited in Bali. The staff was very friendly and helpful (you may have to ask specifically if you need something though e.g., Mini bar restock, laundry pick up, pool towels). I was a little disappointed by my room with the private pool (Moksa 3). It wasn’t very private with a stream running behind it and people fishing right across the way. While they did their best with plants to hide the view of the stream (with garbage) and plywood wall across the way, it did not make me want to spend much time back there.

My four night stay at Kalapa Resort and Yoga Retreat was nothing short of incredible. From the moment I arrived I was greeted by the lovely host, a cold beverage and a fresh towel after my overnight flight and very little sleep. I was offered an early check in as the guests before me had already left and I was able to go and have a lay down. I stayed in the villa with a private pool, king sized bed and a deep bath. It was luxurious and peaceful and I immediately felt relaxed. Kalapa Resort offers yoga sessions three times a day, a restaurant, two pools for everyone to use and a spa. I ate all my meals at the restaurant which were delicious. Special mention to the young man who made the most delicious oat latte. The sticky rice and mango was also amazing. As were the margaritas! I had three treatments at the spa. My first was a deep tissue massage which was quite possibly the best massage I’ve ever had. I followed it up with a hot stone massage the following day and an aromatherapy massage on the last day. My time here was quiet, relaxing, and all staff were just so, so lovely and helpful. I would 100% go back for my next stay in Canggu.

This place is fantastic! We spent a week here and it was super relaxing. The rooms are of the traditional style, are super clean and comfortable. The restaurant has a good menu and the food was incredibly good. There are 2 pools to choose from, both with sun lounges and a covered day bed. There is also a spa, which has reasonable prices and provides a great service. Kalapa is located in a quiet part of Canggu and isn’t a party destination. A short taxi ride will get you into Canggu entrails. Bali Zoo is also around 30-40 minutes away and is well worth a trip (do the Orangutan breakfast)

SHOCKING INCIDENT: My Son Was Bitten by a Snake Inside Our Hotel Room at Kalapa Resort
Our stay at Kalapa Resort & Yoga Retreat turned into an absolute nightmare. On November 17, 2024, my 13-year-old son was bitten by a snake inside our room (Moksa Room 4). A place that should ensure safety and relaxation became the site of a traumatic and dangerous event for our family.
The snake bite required immediate medical attention, forcing us to spend nearly 36 hours at the hospital, incurring significant expenses and enduring immense stress. The hotel management showed a shocking lack of responsibility and empathy throughout the ordeal. Despite this life-threatening incident, we were offered no meaningful assistance, compensation, or even an apology for the horrifying lapse in safety.
Adding insult to injury, the hotel refused to refund us for the two days we were unable to use due to being in the hospital. This lack of accountability and basic decency is unacceptable for a resort that markets itself as a luxury retreat.
I urge anyone considering this hotel to think twice. Safety should be a top priority, and Kalapa Resort has proven it cannot deliver even the most basic assurances. This experience has left us deeply shaken and profoundly disappointed. Avoid this resort at all costs!

We chose this hotel for its attractive setting according to the photos on the website. The reception is carried out at a desk placed on a narrow passageway outside the main building and the least we can say is that it was not formal and lacked seriousness. Javanese-Balinese type villas with terraces very well decorated with antique furniture framing a path leading up a beautiful garden to the 2 very spacious “luxurious” villas under a crawling “cathedral” ceiling. All this must have been magnificent when it opened, but since then the establishment is seriously lacking in maintenance, the rooms and the garden are dirty, the trash cans scattered throughout are not emptied daily, the lighting is faulty, out of 2 swimming pools one is almost ready to welcome customers but the other is closer to a pond defying all notions of hygiene. The small restaurant is in the same state, sofa cushions covered in stains and an aging, uninviting setting. A la carte breakfasts are acceptable. The very young, pleasant and available staff completely lack experience and professionalism, forgetting for example to lay out the towels when "cleaning" the room. In 4 days we have not seen the shadow of a manager. The current setting deserves only 3 stars for decoration and the service only 2 stars. Only recommended for babacool customers who are looking for yoga and are not particularly concerned with the quality aspect of the accommodation.

Came here right after we landed in Bali and it took forever to get there from the airport. It’s quiet and far from the bustle of Canggu, but at least a 10-15 min drive from the beach (or hour long walk 🙃). We stayed in the private pool villa and the pool was really clean, however we hardly used it since we were mainly there at night. The outdoor bathroom was lovely but use the curtain or you might see some of the people working on the roof. Also booked this place for the yoga, but check the schedule if you plan to actually attend classes - they weren’t available the days we were there. The spa was overpriced and due to miscommunication, we had them in the spa area (not the room as expected) which was not as nice as the villa. Overall, the staff is very nice and the room/amenities were just like the photos - all lovely!

Absolutely beautiful authentic and luxury Bali resort. Canggu is very westernised so we enjoyed staying in this high quality beautifully designed Indonesian resort. We were amazed by the value for money compared to other hotels during our Indonesian holiday!
We stayed in the Moksa 1 - room with private pool. It really made our stay, very private, gorgeous interior design and outdoor bathroom. We attended yoga every morning, the teacher was very good - I practice yoga and my boyfriend is learning. The Indonesian breakfast is delicious. Scooter hire is priced fairly direct from the hotel so in 10 mins you can get to echo beach and Canggu. The staff are incredibly helpful, the receptionist text me advice when our bags were lost by the airline. I would recommend this hotel in a heart beat! The only complaint - WiFi is intermittent but we weren’t bothered when on holiday.

Kalapa Resort is situated close to the hustle and bustle of Canggu yet far enough away to be a peaceful pocket of tranquility. We stayed at the resort in a Private Pool Villa for three nights, and whilst enjoying our time there, we felt that the resort didn’t quite measure up to expectations. Many exterior furnishings were dirty (or at least appeared to be), the top pool appeared to be overdue for chlorination and other minor yet evident touches (plant room doors being left ajar for all to see inside, staff climbing on roofs during the day without warning/notice to guests inside their rooms below, rubbish behind room free standing bath in gap against wall). If this were a school grade it’d be something along the lines of “has potential but needs to try harder”. The above being said the staff were lovely and seemed very attentive and polite, happy to help whenever asked. The yoga classes were great and the resort setting itself was pretty. If you’re looking for a nice, quiet place to stay in Canggu that is no more and no less than this is the place!

Before arriving, I was a little worried about the vibe here - their Instagram features a ridiculous amount of ‘influencers’ holding their best yoga poses by the pool. Kalapa was not like this at all! We were met at the airport by the driver who was very entertaining and easy going which made the journey to the resort during peak hour, way easier to deal with! Upon arrival, we were checked in seamlessly and escorted through the resort to our bungalow. Winding through the lush green gardens, we knew we had hit a jackpot. It is a very authentic and boutique resort, making it a quiet and relaxing setting for our stay. The pool areas are divine and our bungalow was nicely styled. The daily yoga classes held by Ayu, a Balinese yogi, were absolutely perfect and since we stayed during a not so busy season, I was lucky enough to have a private class with her when nobody else showed up! The restaurant is great and every morning we were greeted with warm smiles. Nearby is a Hindu temple and their beautiful Sanskrit chants can be heard at 6am. The spa is fantastic and highly recommended. We went out surfing and hired a scooter for the week and the commute from the resort to the beach isn’t too bad if you’re confident! There was a beautiful black puppy that hung out with us for our entire stay - the staff had named her Malika. Though I don’t believe she belonged to anyone, the dog was certainly adored by everyone who was also staying at the resort. We all hoped that perhaps the resort would adopt her so that she would greet us again when we return! All in all, we loved our stay at Kalapa and will definitely be back!

To say I enjoyed my stay is a massive understatement, this villa truly has the best service in the world. They assisted and accompanied me with literally any request (even if it was shooing away a harmless lizard in the bathroom at 12AM).
As a solo traveller I absolutely LOVED my stay, and I cannot wait to return.
