We booked the Astera Canggu for a last minute trip to Bali. The hotel itself is quite small, located across two buildings on opposite sides of a very busy street. We had a one bedroom loft in the building across the street from reception. The room itself is huge. and is aesthetically pleasing, but it is quite impractical and could use some improvements. The bed was very comfortable, but has a large shelf around it which made getting into and out of bed difficult. The hammock floor is fun but a hazard in the night, as there is only a 30cm gap between the hammock and the bed. We left the downstairs light on so we would see the hole in the floor if we got up. The private pool was lovely, but does not have steps or a ladder so my husband struggled to get out with his bad knees. The pools on this side of the hotel are in shade all day, so the water was quite cool being winter. In summer this will be nice and refreshing. We would have liked to have a small table and chairs to sit outside to have our coffee beside the pool. The infinity pool at the back of the reception building was in sun all day, and the pool had steps, so we preferred to use this one as the water was warm, and we had it to ourselves every time. The bathroom is not a seperate room, and is located downstairs in the lounge room. The shower room has a glass door, and you can see out the front door if someone opens it while you are showering. The toilet also has a glass door, meaning you have no privacy. The vanity is quite small with a very large sink. There is no space to place a bathroom bag or leave out your toothbrush etc for daily use. The hotel towels are large and fluffy, but there were no washcloths. There are no towel rails to dry your towel, but there is a hook inside the shower stall under the shower head. The kitchen space is surprisingly large. It has a large closet for your clothes and suitcases, a small fridge, a large sink, and a small microwave. There is a large kettle and some small teacups. You are only supplied 2 teabags and 2 sachet of Nescafe every second day, so bring more with you if you are someone like me who drinks more than one cup a day. The location of the hotel is quite good. There is a Thai and Italian restaurant within the hotel, and a seafood restaurant and a cafe in the adjacent building. A short five minute walk in either direction will bring you to many other local restaurants, day spas and mini-marts. The traffic in this area is notoriously bad all day long so allow yourself plenty of time to go anywhere. Overall we liked this hotel, and the staff were lovely. Should we ever return to Bali we would consider staying here again.

The team at Astera Villa Canggu made our stay extra special by accommodating to our dietary requirements. We had the best nutrition throughout our stay with fresh fruit, green juices, vegetables and high quality proteins for all our meals. We love that our needs are looked after with a E-Butler service which was just a WhatsApp away.
The villa is brand new, as it is only 1 year old. It is spacious and is tastefully designed that made us feel relaxed and calm. There are only 12 villas so it’s is super quiet and exclusive even right in the heart of Canggu.
In our villa, I love to lie on the hammock and go on my inward journey and daydream away! We did the floating breakfast and that was such a fun experience, and it was in the comfort of our own pool.
The bigger marbled pool for villa guests, overlooks the luscious padi field is great for morning meditation and reflections too.
Location wise, it is fantastic as we rented a bike and we get to go everywhere under 15 min in Canggu! Just straight down is Samadi Yoga (2 mins) and La Brisa Beach Club (7mins)!

Modern villa and friendly staff service. The rooms are comfortable with soft mattresses and there is also a mini garden. Especially for honeymoons or anniversaries. If you want to book a room, you can book directly because they provide special prices.

Upon arrival was greeted with smiles, doormen who would even guide you across the street to the rooms, and the promise of a luxurious stay. The next morning and thereafter the standards dropped completely. Hotel door didn’t close properly. Charged $10 for a mark on the pillow. Prices for massages were not correct. What was advertised as $3.50 was actually $35 plus 15% tax. None of which you are told about until you check out. They insisted they couldn’t take debit cards on arrival with a “no cash accepted” sign on the front desk. Yet, upon check out were able to take both from us to pay our hefty bill with secret fees. Reception would agree to send water to the room or said they would call us back regarding enquiries but would often not follow through leading to us following up multiple times. Even after putting a “do not disturb” sign on the outside of our door we came back to a room that had been refreshed. Yes, having fresh linen is great but on day 2 of our holiday we didn’t have time to store our personal belongings away and didn’t want someone in the room with our cash and passports exposed. Very dissatisfied and disappointed overall. Room was nice but not worth this level of hassle.

My husband and I booked the Luxury Honeymoon Package, but it was anything but luxurious.
Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The room was nice and as expected, except for the view. The decoration of flowers in the pool was amazing, but that's about where the good stops.
At check-in, a bond is required, but they only accept credit cards. If you don't have a credit card, you're out of luck.
The food was terrible—served lukewarm or cold and not fresh, with stale pastries. If you're elderly or disabled, avoid this place. The pool in our villa had no stairs for easy access/exit.
The towels were in awful condition—old, fraying, and full of holes (see photos). Getting fresh towels was a hassle; we had to ask 2-3 times despite allowing reasonable time between requests.
Service is not a priority here. As mentioned, it often took multiple requests to get anything.
The main pool area is poorly maintained. Pool towels were rarely stocked, and empty drink glasses sat for days without being cleared.
The 'rice fields' view is not as depicted on the website, and there's a lot of construction near the main pool.
This place is more concerned with its Instagram appearance. A sign outside reception touting the villas as 'Insta-worthy' says it all.
We will avoid all iNi ViE hospitality in future.

Our stay at the Astera Resort Canggu was a huge disappointment and in no way met the expectations of a five-star hotel: 1. Late check-in: Over an hour of waiting without any information or apology from the staff. 2. Dirty room: The room was in a desolate state and was not thoroughly cleaned even after complaints and photo evidence. The shower was defective, and there were numerous other defects. 3. Closed pool: The infinity pool the hotel advertises was closed without prior notice. 4. Unprofessional handling: Problems were ignored, messages unanswered, and eventually I was blocked on WhatsApp. 5. Lunchbox: A lunchbox with two eggs and a dry croissant did not match the quality or quantity of a five-star house.
The hotel does not meet any standards you would expect at this price level and categorisation. None of our requests were responded to by management – a disappointing service that makes us absolutely not recommend this hotel.

I regret to say that our stay at Astera Resort Canggu from December 17th to December 22nd was a huge disappointment. Despite paying a significant amountof money, for what we expected to be a premium experience, our visit was marred by several unacceptable incidents and poor service.
We found cockroaches in our room. However, the situation worsened when we encountered also a rats in our room as we saw it escaping through a gap in the terrace door and later discovered rat droppings throughout the room. Even worse, the rats damaged our personal belongings, including clothing, which was chewed beyond repair.
When we reported this issue to reception, we were told there were no alternative rooms available. A staff member inspected our room and left without resolving the matter, leaving us to spend an extremely uncomfortable night in the same room. The compensation offered—waiving a small restaurant bill (approx. IDR 300,000) and arranging a taxi—was far from sufficient to address the damages and distress caused.
Other issues further detracted from our stay: The shower drain did not function properly. At 5:30 a.m., construction debris was unloaded directly in front of our room, disrupting our sleep. The sand in front of the rooms made the entire space dirty, and we had to walk through a large puddle to reach the reception area.
We expected much more from Astera, but instead, we left feeling deeply disappointed, stressed, and angry. Until significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend Astera Resort Canggu to anyone.

My experience wasn’t so great at this hotel. The breakfast was limited with same items everyday. Also, you could only pick one item on the menu so if you choose cereal thats all you will have for breakfast. They denied my wife to order cereal and a hot meal to go after. The coffee or tea was hot for like a minute after that you can’t drink it as it will be cold. The AC in the bedroom doesn’t work. Only works in the living room. I stayed in villa with pool and also room without pool. It was the same. I arranged a massage day before as per their policy only to be told that the jacuzzi wasn’t working during the massage. I was disappointed as was looking forward to the lush milk bath. Also, the massage wasn’t so great. I didn’t feel any impact after. I raised it to the team and nothing was done about it. The staff is not accommodating to request. We asked to check in early when we were changing rooms but they told us to wait till 3 pm. The pool wasn’t working so we didn’t have a place to chill while waiting for the room to be ready. We requested for a hotel driver for an additional charge as advertised and we waited with no update until we made our own transport arrangements. It could also be nice if you decorate rooms for guest traveling for anniversaries, honeymoon etc. I know you charge for that but simple deco would go a long way in making guest experiences memorable.

This resort was very disappointing for the following reasons. The Resort is located at Canggue, approximately six kilometres from the beach in an area that is being developed, building is divided into two separate locations, with a main road between, two different dinning locations. We stayed in Suite Loft. The following facilities are located downstairs. Bathroom/toilet, fridge, cooking facilities, lounge. In the loft is located the bedroom, access by a step cement staircase, no handrails, excellent views over building sites that are being used for dumping rubbish. The swimming pool is located in the main area with Massage facilities, office and a dining location. The staff were excellent and helpful, but I cannot recommend this resort as it is in the middle of no where, and given the loft for elderly customers, be careful. Transport is via hire vehicle which are reasonable cost.

We stayed here for 8 nights, booked via a luxury escapes package which included daily breakfast, our choice of either lunch or dinner (daily) along with one cocktail per person(daily), two massages each as well as a floating breakfast. It was an AWESOME deal!! We stayed in the royal smart suite villa. We loved our pool, the room is spacious which we loved and importantly the bed was comfortable.
We had amazing traditional Balinese massages from the beautiful Nanda at their spa, highly recommend her we left feeling even more relaxed :) (they start with washing your feet and allow you to choose the oil you would like her to massage you with)
They provide all the amenities in the room, saves you bringing them with you. The staff are all very friendly and absolutely nothing is a problem for them! We would definitely come back here. It was a fabulous place for us to rest, recharge, chill and celebrate our anniversary!!
