This is easily one of the best hostels I've ever been. It has a section for women and for men. Completely separate ypu have some privacy not much. But better than other hostels. The bathroom area its huge you don't need to be waiting or making a line to get a bath. The owner-manager was really friendly and welcoming

I'm on a mission to visit all 50 U.S. state capitals. This place blew me away. I could NOT COMPLAIN for the price and value which were for a priceless experience. First off, thanks and high praises to Jo, the clerk, for staying up for me despite strict rules to close this place at a certain time when I had...

5 stars does not say enough!! Clean, neat, great location. Well organized, and the staff? I wanna take them home. The place ran like clock work. There should be an award for congenial, friendly, and totally pleasant.....Jo & Jeff, fine work, such a pleasure meeting you both.

I have never stayed anywhere less friendly/welcoming than this hostel. There is a 9 - 5 lockout, and staff knocks on your door at 8 am, announcing you have an hour to leave, then wanders around at 8:50 am, announcing you have 10 minutes to leave. I'm an adult, I know how to use a clock. You also have to...

Good location. I had a truck and parked right out front. Stayed 2 nights while waiting for the ferry. Lots of euro travelers cooking in the kitchen. It's a small converted house. Mens room down in the "dungeon". We all had to sign up for a chore which was different but also they kick you out from 9am to 5pm....

Very comfortable and friendly atmosphere. You're locked out from 9am to 5pm but I lived with that OK. Met a lot of people there that I've kept in touch with although that's not necessarily a function of the hostel. The hostel is small and the layout conducive to meeting people.

We were stuck without a bed and stayed a night here. It is clean and well run and in a good location. You do one chore each day and the water was hot. Fairly well equipped kitchen and a good amount of local information.

I had no idea this hostel was on a steep hill! I'd heard it was on a "hill" but didn't equate that to a San Francisco hill so keep this in mind. If you aren't into a steep walk then don't stay here, though it does have an excellent view! As for the average review, it's a hostel, $12 a...

I am so glad I found this Pearl here in Juneau. I was amazed with the Staff service that I felt I was in a 5 Star Hotel without the outrageous prices. My family was impressed. Oh boy I was the bomb for bringing them here. They have a lot of information with maps, trails and things to do locally....

Joanna and Jenn provide a friendly and well-organized hosteling experience for all who enter this convenient and very clean facility. If you are driving, parking requires some creativity and flexibility. Like Seattle and San Francisco, Juneau has some very steep hills. Harris Street is on one of those. It's worth the effort, though.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Juneau Hostel is a non-profit, volunteer-run, public service to provide affordable accommodation for travelers and the families from the outlying communities of Southeast Alaska. Because we are volunteer-run, we have day jobs, which is why we have the 9-5 lock-out, and which is why we are particular about everybody leaving at 9. We have to go to work. The 11 pm curfew ensures quiet, safe, family-oriented accommodation. The gender segregated dorm rooms have no more than 8 beds in the largest room. Yes, the beds are uncomfortable, but you won’t find cleaner or safer accommodations anywhere in the world. In addition, we provide linens, towels, wifi, unlimited hot water, a kitchen and comfortable common area and coin-operated laundry facilities. We are open 350 days a year and the managers live onsite with children. ... more   less
