On the side of the main road to Seward. A very good location and views. Good for travelers with RV, or travelers with tent only. Ther is bears around and you need to obay the rulls. Sometimes the train that go close is making some noise but it really nothing.

Great campground. It's a short Walking distance on a asphalt trail over to Bird Creek where we fished for salmon. Get there before noon to be assured of getting a campsite. It's also fairly close to Girdwood (which is a fun little burb to visit) and the Portage Glacier tour.

I can really only comment on this as a fishing spot / walking area because we didn't camp here. We stopped to stretch our legs and use the facilities on a drive from anchorage down the Seward highway to homer. It's outhouses, but they were clean enough as far as outhouses go. We stayed at Bird Creek campground for a day hike, enjoyed its picnic tables and a very easy access to the paved path. The campground is right near the busy Seward Highway. Although screened from view, you can hear cars going by. This could be a plus for people who want easy access to the gas station and some attractions...

We spent our first night in Alaska at Chugatch National Forest in the Bird Creek Campground just outside of Girdwood. It was a small campground located just off the Seward Highway.
