The place is sparkling clean; I met the host on my way in and she gave me the all-important coffee tour (and shared her supply of almond milk with me :). I literally needed a place just for the night; on balance, I wish I had booked 2 nights as I was in the area. Highly recommended!
Lovely place, lovely home. Ashley takes great care with this place. It's clean, safe, oh did I say clean! The neighborhood is FIT for walking and walking and walking. I would definitely return and bring my husband who hasn't experienced hostel life.
If you are planing to ride Alyeska ski resort, this is your place, enjoy life in Girdwood. You can walk to main area 10-20 min (small market, coffee shop, restaurants ) and also to the alyeska resorts probably like 5-15 min walk. If you are backpacker, hitch hiking to Girdwood from Anchorage, i would say it would work easily also. Place are simply clean. They have everything enough to cook and enough space. Beds are comfortable. Showers are hot, never run out out of hot water, clean, has privacy. I am looking for coming back to this place to experience another beautiful alaskan winter.
I have stayed @ hostels in ski towns quite a bit over the past 2 seasons and this one is definitely one of the best. Its small (only 2 guest rooms + a common space), but its clean and well kept after. The recent renovation to the guest rooms and common space was well done. The host Jeremy was very communicative and made sure I had everything I needed upon check in. The only "warning" or item of note for other guests, is that the kitchen wasn't very stocked with some of the basics ... napkins, cooking oil, salt + pepper, etc ... so either stop in Anchorage or in town to fill the cupboard if you plan to do any cooking. Loved Girdwood and would stay here again for sure!
When we arrived no one was there to welcome us, only a post-it on the front door asking to put the payment into the safety box. The private room we booked wasn't private at all, since we had to go through the dormitory to get to the room. The hostel provides the possibility of a 5 dollar shower for not guests, which personally I find disgusting. The room was really small and dirty is a word that doesn't describe the conditions we found the room in. Sheets were folded onto the bed so we had to make our bed and the sheets were all stained, god knows by what. We slept with our clothes on, clothes that we will probably burn after this. My advice: spend twice the money.
