I arrived at the hotel to check in. The travel website stated that it took Discover which is how I was going to pay for the hotel. The clerk took my Discover card and said that it didn't work. I had cleared the card before I left that it would be used outside the US. I just wanted a clean... More

Hotel itself is nice enuff, and rooms and bathrooms clean and funcional. But there is somebody working there who is stealing and the the manager as usual Tico style refuses to acknowledge it and confront it......My brand new Samsung smart phone was ripped out of my room, probably by the cleaning lady as she was the only one I saw... I was excited to stay in this historical building but was a little put off by the room itself- the window to the room faced directly in to the very very busy street. I hardly slept at all. The window didn't really close and didn't have screens. The bed was not very comfortable either. Location wise, I was not impressed.... More

Unique building right near all downtown activities. Each room is unique. If you're looking for a "big box" hotel experience, this isn't it. Have stayed here 5 times. Great breakfast, coffee 24/7 and they serve beers as well. Friendly people run it. Can't wait until the next time.

$40 the night for an individual room is expensive for What you get here. The hotel is correct: hot water, clean, well located. But is very dated, it has some insect problems (my bathroom was full of ants) and the breakfast is not so great: 3 options But fake orange juice tang type

This is still my favorite hotel in San Jose for the following reason: 1. beautiful historic building 2. friendly staff, and helpful for booking tours/travel 3. each room is unique 4. plentiful complimentary CR-style breakfast The neighborhood is safe, but be aware that once it gets dark there are "ladies of the night" who work in the area.

I stayed here as a stopover on my way to Dominical. On New Years Eve, I had a friend up to my room. Apparently, this was not allowed and a small sign behind the front desk announced this rule (I truly did not see it, nor was this rule announced on the guest registration card). The next day, I was... More

I had a great experience here due to the professionalism and hospitality of the entire staff. This is an older building which is very well maintained and clean. The free breakfast was an added treat consisting of coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, choice of scrambled or fried eggs, fresh fruit, toast, and rice and beans. The famous writer for whom...
