My wife and I have stayed at Montezuma Gardens several times, and it has always been a pleasure. We've watched the Gardens grow from a small, well-run B&B with an amazing butterfly garden, through the addition of Ryan's craft brewery, and more recently of the Clandestina Restaurant, always with the same sense of Pura Vida. I had driven many hours...

The Mariposario B&B (MB&B) is a remote respite from the hustle and bustle of San José. Located on the eastern side of the peninsula across the bay from Puntarenas and Jacó on the mainland, Montezuma is a beachcomber's delight: small yet full of most if not all of the amenities you may want. The MB&B has two gems that tourists...

Great place to stay run by super friendly ex-pats (from Portland, OR). We enjoyed the brewery, the restaurant (Clandestina) and the room/balcony very much. One day we even had some Howler monkeys join us for a beer :) I would stay at this place again and again.

We stayed here for one night in March - there are only 4 rooms and they were sold out for a second night stay. To be honest, I'm not sure we would have stayed the second night after the first. The B&B is very out of the way, which for some is nice, I didn't enjoy that. Much too far...

We are very sorry that you had an atypical experience here at the Mariposario. We do desire that everyone who comes here has a great experience not only at our B&B, but in the entire peninsula. I also regret the malfunction of your air conditioner. We do a lot of preventative maintenance to keep everything in working order in a...

I lived here for 5 days jan -14 (sorry for the late review) and still one year later I think about how much I want to come back. Beautiful house located a 15 min (steep) walk from Montezuma centre. Peaceful surroundings and a beautiful butterfly garden. Two very happy dogs :) Open welcoming common areas (kitchen, livingroom and terrace) and...

We stayed five nights at the Mariposario and very much enjoyed our time here. Our superior room was spacious and had a nice terrace - though the bathroom might need a bit of a refresh. But this was largely compensated by the warm hospitality and special attention of all staff who give this place a magical touch. Breakfast was yummy...

We toured the butterfly garden and our tour guide, Pauline, was so well informed and was able to show us in great detail all the aspects of the how she did her work. We did not stay @ the B&B because we\ stayed across the street. but had wonderful breakfast's there and in the afternoon some fantastic mirco brews. All...

We just returned from a 2 night visit to Mariposario Montezuma Gardens. This small B&B is way up a hill on the road past the main waterfall, and is situated far enough from town to avoid the noise and nightlife, but close enough to walk in a pinch....caution that the downhill is just as tempting as the uphill is daunting!...

Stayed at mariposario for three nights when we where in Montezuma. Had read that it wasn't in the village so we were prepared for that. The rooms are nice with air con and they have a book exchange were we found some interesting new titles. We spent the first night checking out the butterflys and then drinking the home brewed...

This was easily the best hotel/b&b I've stayed in in my travels. The staff was kind and treated us like family. We enjoyed glorious breakfast every morning (the best was French toast) and hand crafted beer in the evening. The rooms were extremely clean and had air conditioning. We received a tour of the butterfly garden from the owners wife....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mariposario Montezuma Gardens and Butterfly Brewing Co. A lovely B&B, micro-brewery, butterfly garden, bar and restaurant in the jungle. We are located 1.6 km from Montezuma center at the entrance to the upper waterfall trail. The location is not right in town but in a tranquil area surrounded by mountain jungle. The road to the Mariposario is very steep but you do not need a 4x4 car to arrive here. ... more   less
