Accidentally stumbled upon this place. We were headed to Manuel Antonio and realized it was closed… so we were looking for the closest hotel we could find to have lunch. We picked this place randomly off of the map and WOW did we luck out! We were able to buy two day passes and apply the value towards food and drink. In exchange we were able to use all of the beach and pool facilities. It was the best day of our entire trip to CR, and a complete accident. Next time we visit, we will stay here for a few days. It is heaven! Gorgeous, clean, wonderful service and safe. The road to the resort off the Main Street is intimidating…. But you’ll make it. Promise! 🤣

What a great accident indeed. We are glad you found us. And even happier that you plan to stay with us next time you visit Manuel Antonio. We are the only luxury hotel right on the beach. With amazing views and our own private wildlife reserve. You might not even have to go to the park. Thanks for the advice on the road. It is steep but doable. In case you need help, just give us a call and we will come up and drive you down. See you soon.

The hotel is nice, cozy and modern. Location is very good, and the beach is nice and relaxt with all kinds of facilities. Food in all restaurants was diverse and good. The two of us made reservation for a 2 night stay. Unfortunately one of us faced a medical issue. The hotel staff truly took care of us. Very thoughtful, they arranged for a doktor and (in the end) an ambulance. I stayed an extra night on my own, due to the situation, and I was well taken care off. Thank you VERY much Arenas del Mar Team! We sincerely hope to return one day to thank you in person, and enjoy the hotel a bit longer,

We stayed here recently (room 701) and overall had a nice stay. The staff is so nice and the rooms are clean. We had a monkey encounter almost every day, which was really fun. And we saw sloths and macaws from the pool. Really great nature and breathtaking views. The pools are beautiful (no hot tub), and the chairs at the beach were really nice. Although the water was pretty rough and not recommended for small kids. I got an hour long massage for $113 which was a great value. A few things held me back from giving it five stars. 1. You are also really stuck at the resort. As many reviews share, it is on a VERY steep hill and far from the town. So be prepared to eat the same meal every single day. While breakfast is included, strangely you have to pay for iced tea. I did enjoy the dinner options, although the prices were high for the area. Also there's a $25 charge for room service, which is high even for the US! 2. I think they are on a septic system because there are certain places on the property (outside our room, the spa) that absolutely stunk like sewage. Like, a nausea-inducing smell. I hope they can solve for that. 3. I personally thought the bed was too hard and springy. They should invest in upgrading the mattresses. While I enjoyed it, I don't think we would go back.

Thank you for your stay with us at Arenas del Mar. And a special thank you for this detailed feedback on your stay. While we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the wonderful comments about the room, the wildlife and the staff, we still wished that you would want to come back. Regarding your feedback. In terms of our location in a rain forest reserve with access to two beaches, yes... we are a bit away from town, but with easy walking access along the beach or a short taxi ride away. Point two. This is terrible, and we are on it. Sorry about this. I am not sure what happened, but be assured that it will be corrected right away. I wish you had told us on the spot. and in terms of the mattresses (Simmons Beautyrest Premium), typically the comments for our bedding are amazing, but we will look into this as well and see if your comment is part of a trend.

We loved our 3 nights at Arenas Del Mar. We stayed in the Playitas Suite which was perfect for our family of 6. We ate at both restaurants and the food was wonderful. Staff was amazing and friendly. Super close to MA National Park. Would highly recommend this resort for a relaxing stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Fabulous, huge suite (premium ocean view) with a sitting room, coffee making area and fridge with included snacks and drinks and very large balcony with jacuzzi and full sea view. There is a privacy issue with the jacuzzi and we could clearly see others, a design fault with the screening which could be reasonably easily rectified. Otherwise, we loved everything about this resort. Large menu at dinner which didn’t change but plenty of choice and the food was good. Large portions, we shared a starter and could have shared a main as well. Breakfast also good. Lovely beach restaurant with macaws, iguanas, monkeys, a sloth in a tree - effortless wildlife watching! A steep walk up from the public beach (which is very long and great if you enjoy beach walks), you can apparently go to the entrance gate and the security guard will phone for a buggy but we didn’t bother. Manuel Antonio park is VERY busy, quite unlike any other parks we visited during our trip, but we did see several sloths.

Wow! Wow! Wow! One of the most beautiful resorts we have ever stayed at and one of the best vacations we've ever had. Staff was unbelievable, resort was spectacular, and Costa Rica is wonderful. Resort was small and private. My wife felt like she was on the bachelorette show! Some of the food was different but VERY good. I was a bit unsure on some of the dishes but I enjoyed the different culinary experience and it was all amazing. The resort is kept in immaculate condition and the staff is waiting on you for anything you want with a smile on their face. Our room was beautiful. The view was beautiful. The layout is beautiful. You are at the edge of the jungle with the breathtaking view of the ocean and just a few steps from the private beach with shade and loungers for a comfortable day of laid back relaxation. No need to worry about food or drinks because they are right there to bring whatever your in the mood for. It is just outside the town of Quepos which is about a 5-10 min ride from the resort. They will provide you with transportation to and from for a very reasonable fee. Quepos is still a local type town. It hasn't been "americanized" like many other places. No chain restaurants, shopping malls, or stores. All local food, boutiques, and hangouts. People in the town are so nice and we hung out in town a couple of days. The sea wall was a great place to watch the sunset. We felt safe and weren't bothered by people hounding us to buy something. I just can't say enough great things about Arenas del Mar. This trip was just me and my wife but we are coming back soon with my sons. This will definitely be a place we will be making a trip to for years to come. Very seldom am I blown away by an experience. Arenas del Mar did that for me!! 5 stars was not a high enough rating. Thank you for the spectacular experience and keep up the great work you guys are doing!!!

The views from our room were amazing. We were in 402A and loved the view. Instead of sofa bed they arranged two single beds which was perfect for kids. Free mini bar with drinks and snacks is great. Daily free laundry was amazing!! We enjoyed the room. Breakfast is a la carte, free and good. First night we had diner at the hotel restaurant. It was full of lizards, we waiting super long for our food and everything was under cooked (we had asked for well done streak and burger and both were very red). It was by far our worse meal experience in 10 day trip. Lunch by the beach was better but also super long wait. We saw some monkeys, sloths and lots of giant lizards in property which was great. Monkeys were not aggressive. Private beach is amazing. We also went down to public beach for a walk. You can walk a really long time along the beach, it goes on forever. 2 small pools. No one uses the one at reception but we used the one near beach a bit for refreshing dip as it was warm. They dont have a gym but they have a small room with 1 treadmill. They are great to arrange transportation. Second night they did reservation to ronys place for us and arranged transportation but we got there and there was no reservation and we could not get in since wedding!?! driver brought us to Raphael’s which was good. We also did el wagon for lunch which was really good. Driver dropped us at zip coaster and we did that then walked over to el wagon. We did manuel antonio private tour with hotel. It was a nice walk, saw lots of animals and cooled off at beach. We did the tortila making which was fun. We did the market which was a good way to spend 90 minutes but $60 per person is way overpriced for that activity. Prior to our 3 nights here we spent 4 nights at Springs Resort snd 3 nights at W. both W and Springs Resort were significantly nicer in our opinion but still enjoyed our stay at Arenas. that then walked over to el wagon

I’ve been visiting Quepos and Manuel Antonio since the late 90’s and I’ve been able to spend a bit of time in many properties in this area. Arenas del Mar is my favorite spot, and while I could write many pages and touch upon many details, I will summarize the sentiment with a few key points. 1. The vast majority of hotels in this area do not have direct access to a beach, and much less so to one that is practically private. I believe that this beach is called “Playita” and it actually remains beautiful even during the rainy season, which is not always the case along CR’s central and south pacific coast line. I recommend maximizing time there when the tide is lower. 2. Good views are actually common in MA, but Arenas offers you spectacular vantage points from ANYWHERE… rooms, restaurant, bar, pools… anywhere you are, the eyes will be pampered. 3. For most of us, food and drink are an important part of quality downtime. The chefs at Arenas are doing exemplary work, focusing on authentic cuisine with quality ingredients. And their a-la-carte breakfast menu is the most ample I’ve ever seen. I was able to try a few options and they were all 10/10, which is rare… 4. Wildlife is abundant. You will definitely see monkeys and probably see macaws. If you are lucky, you’ll catch a sloth or two… eagles, snakes, etc. This is what happens when you are immersed in the forest. 5. Service. I left it last, but it certainly is not least. You are warmly and attentively received in the “Welcome” area, then shuttled to the beautiful, open-air reception, and finally taken to your room. It’s a wonderful process that serves to educate you on how to make the most of your stay. The staff at the restaurant, beach-club, guest services… and even housekeeping, are constantly going further to sweeten your stay. I am very much looking forward to my next stay, with the family.

Dear Gabo, thanks for your visit to Arenas del Mar and taking the time to leave such a detailed and thoughtful review. We are sure that it will be very helpful for future guests that are considering staying with us in Manuel Antonio. You hit on the main points why Arenas del Mar is so special. The beachfront location within a private nature reserve full of tropical fauna is very hard to find, even in other parts of Costa Rica. Many quests comment that they have seen more wildlife on the hotel property than in the nearby National Park. Thank you also for the great feedback on our culinary offerings and the customer service provided by our team. That is of course the other element that makes for a great vacation. Your feedback is a motivation for us continue to improve. We are glad that after your romantic getaway with your wife, you are also considering coming back with the whole family. Please also consider Arenas del Mar's sister hotels of the Cayuga Collection in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama for future vacations. Greetings from sunny Manuel Antonio.
