First, don’t take transportation services from airport to hotel offered by hotel or any other services. It took over 4 hours to get to the airport due to massive traffic and construction-it’s technically 2.5 hours-but took 4. Take the hopper plane. Second, the property is very nice but it’s treacherous. The surfaces they use on the ground are so slippery and they have these massive trenches on the side of the road to capture water that are not lit at night. It was raining and a car was coming so I moved to the side cause the car wasn’t stopping and I fell into the trench. It’s a dangerous property to navigate. I got NOTHING but a “my apologies” when I told the manager I fell into the trench l. They are not marked or illuminated at night. They acknowledged the “lights weren’t working.” They handled it poorly to say the least. The property is, in general. Great. And there are stand out staff … Alex, for one is amazing. Reception seemed like they were bothered by guests. I took appropriate precautions, wore hiking sneakers and used caution but still fell in the ditch they had unlighted and no railing to protect guests and they simply didn’t care. Also, don’t be fooled by the beach front-it’s impossible to walk to the beach when it rains and the staff will NOT drive you down when it’s wet. You actually slip walking up and down the hill from the beach because the road is so steep and there are no railings and loaded with moss. At the end of the day it is a beautiful place, but be cautious of what they offer. The spa was out of service-even tho I booked services a month in advance the spa was totally unusable for repairs , but it was not disclosed until arrival at the property. They could have told me that before arrival so I could make other plans. I will be back at some point because it was so nice, but I like to offer realistic point of view on actual experiences to people considering going. If you have mobility issues of any kid, skip it, it’s the most dangerous property I’ve ever been at .

We rested here together in September. I travel a lot and have visited many hotels, but this one will definitely be remembered for a long time! Incredible ocean view from the room and excellent breakfasts! I wanted to eat everything! The local restaurant is a delight! The exquisite interiors, the serving of the food, the service and the food itself are wonderful! I think this is the best restaurant on the Pacific Coast! The beach is quite small, but beautiful and there was enough space for everyone. The beach has soft sofas and sun loungers with cushions. We were worried about the rain, but we were lucky and the weather was perfect. While we were resting in Makanda, on the territory of the hotel we saw many lizards, beautiful butterflies, sloth, anteater, toucans and many other beautiful birds. The hotel has two communal pools with bars and ocean views. And what I really liked was that Makanda's villas could not be seen either from the road or from the hotel territory, because everything here is buried in greenery! There were some shortcomings like ants, but they were quickly resolved. Thank you Makanda for our unforgettable stay and the soul invested in the hotel !!!

I've been all over the pacific coast of CR, and Makanda has one of the best Chefs on the hotel scene in 2021. From the "perfectly pouched" Eggs Benedict to an awesome Short Rib for me and Lobster Pasta for my wife. On top of the great cuisine, there was a great friendly staff!!!!

- Cockroaches in our room EVERYDAY - EXTREME lack of service - 80% occupancy and very few waiters (A LOT OF WAIT FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU ORDER!) - 2 waiters had a verbal fight in front of the clients at breakfast (super unprofessional) Definitely not worth the price.. Clearly customers are not a priority and service is definitely below the standard (which should not be, considering their proces)
