Tulemar bungalows is such a gem! We arrived at night and were greeted by our concierge and taken to our beautiful bungalow. We stayed at Casa Del Mar, and being able to take a shower in the beautiful indoor/outdoor shower after our long drive was perfect. I woke up early the next day, anxious to see Tulemar in daylight. It did not disappoint! Sitting on the balcony, watching daylight break over the misty canopy out towards the ocean was magical. The rest of the family still wasn’t up so I decided to go for a run around the property. I was in awe of the sights and sounds of the jungle around me. You really feel like you are in your own private jungle that leads down to your own private beach. Very Swiss Family Robinson. The property is very hilly, which is the only bummer. They provide shuttles to and from the beach, but I really enjoy walking, especially in such a beautiful place. I still walked and ran the property a few times during my stay, but couldn’t convince the family to do it much. There were so many highlights from our stay at Tulemar. Watching sunrise and sunsets on the balcony from one of our comfortable chairs or the amazing hot tub, seeing macaws fly through canopy or monkeys play in the trees, laying on the daybed with the family to watch an after dinner movie, our private beach with warm water, fun waves and beautiful scenery, the food and the amazing staff. Everyone we met at Tulemar was so helpful, friendly and warm. They really go above and beyond to make sure you have a wonderful stay. They remembered us by name and would joke with our kids. We could have food or drinks delivered to us at the beach, our room or one of the many pools (another highlight, especially for the kids). We really felt at home at Tulemar (if your home is a beautiful tropical oasis), and can’t wait to return with friends and family!

Hi schenoweth......thank you so much for the review of Casa del Mar....this is a wonderful villa for a family....with its amazing views and spacious patio perfect for lounging....and its easy (but hilly) access to the entrance of Tulemar, the pools, and the Tule Cafe.....I am so glad you mentioned the wildlife, too....we have so much wildlife at Tulemar....many people say they see more animals inside the resort than they do at the National Park!......it sounds like you and your family created some wonderful memories at Casa del Mar....that is exactly what we hope for......thank you so much again for the review...we can't wait to see you again soon! We just returned from 15 days visiting various spots in Costa Rica. Bamboo Villas and Vista Del Mar in Tulemar Resort was by far our favorite place to stay! While the two homes were both splendid, what made the stay the most enjoyable was our concierge Brian. From the minute we checked in, he was completely at our service. He handled all our heavy luggage, set us up with ice and drinks, arranged a fantastic fishing trip on “Moonwalker”, gave us a private tour of the property, arranged for the chef to prepare our tuna we caught- (delicious!!) moved us from Bamboo to Vista Del Mar (because Bamboo was booked the last 3 nights we were there) and even had us checked into our new accommodations before 11am. Brian honestly took care of everything without disturbing our privacy and with such enthusiasm all the time! He has a bright new pair of sneakers every day to match his sunny personality! As for the properties- I can’t imagine anything nicer. The view, wildlife and privacy were what stands out at Bamboo-oh and the private pool was awesome! Del Mar was incredibly equipped and beautifully decorated. The house had every kitchen gadget you can imagine and expansive serving pieces-you could have a dinner party for 20 people! We will miss seeing the Macaws fly overhead and the monkeys playing in the trees. This place truly is a slice of paradise! Thank you Brian for making our stay extra special! Jen

We spent 2 nights at Tulemar and it was so relaxing we felt like we’d been gone a week! The bungalows were great, the beach was amazing, and of course seeing monkeys and sloths as you walk down the street was a favorite for my daughters. My kids loved body surfing and the water was incredibly warm. The pools were nice too, though we spent most of our time at the beach. My kids loved finding the little hermit crabs on the beach. Javier was the best concierge we’ve ever had. Extremely attentive. Booked catamaran ride and sloth tour for us, including transportation. We didn’t have to think about a thing. He even drove us to dinner at Victoria’s Italian Restaurant across from Tulemar. We can’t wait for our next trip back!

Paradise and the perfect oasis. Enjoyed seeing wildlife every day - Monkeys, Sloths, Mackaws and beautiful lizards. Private beach was charming. Amazing views from the villa porch. Every employee was kind, helpful and smiling. Concierge beyond expectations. A must-experience before too late. Hills a little steep, so we appreciated the free shuttle. Freebies at the beach were appreciated - kayak, boogie board & snorkeling. Best margarita's we have ever had. Pure heaven.

Hi Thomas W......my feeling is this....if the service is what you would expect.....no tip is needed.....we appreciate your stay.....if your service was beyond your expectations and put a smile on your face......tips to the concierge are very much appreciated......there is not a guide or a list for tipping the concierge.....the situation with each stay is different......how many nights (1 night or 1 week or more)......what size property (1 bedroom bungalow or 4 bedroom private villa)......how many guests (just the two of you or 10-12).....did you request help doing something that would not normally be part of their responsibilities (lost luggage, car rental issues, running errands, etc).....tipping is a very personal subject for many guests......so we leave it to their discretion.....again......we truly appreciate you choosing to stay with us and our concierges love what they do and their guests......and if you choose to tip.....we all say thank you!

What is the best way to get to the resort??
Answer from Tulemar Dave
Feb. 2021 |
If you are coming from San Jose, we suggest letting us arrange a private van and driver to meet you at the airport and bring you to Tulemar - it's about 2 1/2 hours non-stop - but everyone stops along the way - for a snack or bathroom break and especially at the "crocodile bridge" at Tarcoles to view the giant crocs below - after a long flight it's the easiest way to come to Tulemar - once you book accommodations - your personal concierge can arrange for this service - your can also try the shuttle flights - but they are not reliable - or renting a car and driving yourself - but we don't recommend this for first timers to the country or if you would be driving at night (the sun goes down around 5:30 PM year round) - hope this helps. Hi DonnaN714, sorry, I did not receive the Private Message so I sent one to you about the tipping. Second, for your question about the COVID test, yes, we can arrange that for you. It is not a problem. We have several companies that can provide the test with a turnaround time of 24-48 hours. Your concierge will be happy to help you with that. You can real all about it on our webpage. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Tulemar Dave

Hi DonnaN714.....that is so nice to ask....tipping is completely optional based upon the service level you received.....if you send me a Private Message with the date/name of your reservation.....I can see what villa/the length of time/the number of guests and can offer a range for tipping......and Chris Greeno......your generosity is amazing.....your concierge must have been thrilled....Tulemar Dave
