My sister and I visited in rainy season and were the only guests there, enjoyed a fabulous bungalow with ocean views and relaxing hammocks. The only drawback to low season is lots of the town was closed. We practical had it to ourselves. The owner herself is sweet, speaks great English, and was incredibly helpful. We took a private boat...

The reviews of this place had me a little apprehensive. But my experience was excellent. This place is a solid 10 minute walk to the little town near Playa Del Carmen beach, but I rented a bike and that made it very easy. There is no dinner served here, so you have to travel out at night to get food....

Spent 1 night at this place. The cabins are very nice especially for the price, but the morning manager, an older married guy, started hitting on me as I checked out, asking me for a "goodbye kiss" and pulling me into an unwelcome embrace. When I confronted him, he apologized to my husband (not me) and swore he'd never do...

The Blue Jay lodge offers a great place with a great view, and for a reasonably cheap rate at $60/night, it is fair. Although the stairs leading up to the rooms can be steep and lengthy to climb on a full stomach. But it still is a good place to stay for the price. There are beach access within a...

Run by a lovely Costa Rican family (values statement - everywhere else I stayed was expat owned, I think). 2 minute walk to the ocean, located on the hillside with the jungle. You are in nature here. You will have surprise visitors in and around your cabin. It becomes fascinating but also mandates you be an outdoors enthusiast to stay...

Incredibly relaxing. So glad we stayed here for four nights near the beginning of our Costa Rica trip for some quality hammock time. Compared to other lodging in the area, I think Blue Jay is especially well located--private, with beach access, but still central--and has great amenities--hammocks!!, a pool, and hearty breakfast. Definitely ask for one of the upper level...

Recently stayed at the Blue Jay Lodge during the peak season in Santa Teresa. Our visit was a bit of a mixed bag, we felt there were several things we were not aware of when we arrived. Pro's: nice lobby area and pool, very comfortable to hang out in during the day. Breakfast provided is simple but nice, and apparently...

This was a lovely spot to land for our first couple of days in Costa Rica. We would have stayed longer but we had other plans. We opted for the upper lodges on the hill side $50/night. The view was definately worth the hike up the hill and the uneven steps. An open air room on three sides with screens....

I have been a few times and love the manager and the location and accommodations. I have never stayed up high in the bungalows. Only at ground level. I have seen horses roaming in the pathways and the rooms are spacious and lovely.

We were in Santa Teresa and were looking for a nice and inexpensive lodge. Blue Jay Lodge was perfect. Located in Mal Pais, quiet, huge rooms, clean and cheap. Great value, great price. Breakfast included and perfect: Eggs, Bread, Coffe ... all you need in the morning! We will be back!

“Upper level rustic rooms are unique and fun.. We love this type of thing. If you are looking for a conventional room, perhaps one of the ones with a/c would be more suitable.”
