I stayed at Laguna Lodge with Caravan. Tortuguero was a highlight of the trip, so much so I am going again in December, before Caravan takes Tortuguero off their itinerary in 2014. Laguna Lodge has a great location, on a slice of land between the main canal and the beach. You can even walk to town from the lodge. Because...

The positives- they have red eyed tree frogs on the property, theycome out at 5.30 pm, in may. there are nesting montezuma orependulas on the property. i have never been able to observe these birds at such close proximity anywhere else. Boat trips were pretty good, in nearby preserves. There are apparently no ac in tortuguero due to ecological reasons....

This is a very basic lodge. There are rustic cabins with rocking chairs on the porches and the grounds are pleasant with trees, flowers and animal life. There is a swimming pool. Be careful in the bathroom. There is a step down into the shower. Plus, the humidity is such that the floor may not be completely dry from the...

Our visit to Tortuguero and the Laguna Lodge was part of a vacation planned by Anywhere Costa Rica (see the seperate review of ACR). My best advice is, if you are insistent on seeing the Caribbean side of Costa Rica consider flying to Tortuguero! The Laguna Lodge is right near to the airstrip and all incoming/outgoing aircraft pass, very loudly,...

Dear Legalm0m, Thank you very much for your comments, we assure you we will be taking them all into account. We would like to let you know a little bit of our background. Tortuguero beach is the most important nesting site of the endangered green turtle in the Western Hemisphere. Giant leatherback, hawksbill, and loggerhead turtles also nest here. The...

My parents and I spent 3 nights there and enjoyed the whole experience greatly. I remember how charming it was canal boating... The hotel has a rustic feeling about it but it is nice and clean, comfortable and the food is very good. You can find some monkeys, racoons, birds and other animals in the communal areas and beautiful plants....

The Laguna Lodge is not the Ritz Carlton Resort. That should be obvious, but seems in some of the other reviews there may be an expectation problem, so just want to get that put there! What it is, is a clean and comfortable rustic lodge, located in the middle of a spectacular natural area. We stayed two nights at the...

My husband and I stayed at Laguna Lodge as part of a Caravan tour of Costa Rica. The rustic cabins of the Lodge sit on the river in the front and the Caribbean in the rear. The cabins were spartan, but clean offering two beds, a dresser, and a bath with a shower. There is no air conditioning, just plenty...

There are many options in this area and I'm not sure I would go with this establishment again. Yes it is family run, yes it is clear it supports the locals and is eco friendly BUT.... 1. the gift shop was a joke ... nothing in it. 2. the beds were harder than rocks 3. The fan in the room...

Good weather certainly enhanced our visit to Laguna Lodge. It takes a rather long boat ride from the dock to get there and when the water in the river is low, even longer, but interesting all the same as you enter the jungle habitat. The covered boat seats about 20 people. Arrival of guests at the lodge is made special...

Breath taking scenery with amazing rainforest tours. We went from sunrise to sunset but never felt rushed. You are made to slow down. There are no TV's/phones and the sun goes down at 6 pm. The sun rises on the Caribbean just outside our door. Rustic cabins with great food and service on a well maintained property. Love the pools....
