If you are coming to Tortuguero, you are not expecting to find a 4 Seasons or Westin resort. You won’t. However, you will find a quaint and charming little place with just enough charm and amenities to not spoil what you came to escape. Yes. A breath of fresh nature and a place to experience it, tucked away just far enough off the beaten path to enjoy it. The rooms were simple in their appointments. The meals were just fine also. Again, not anything to challenge your delicate palate but quite satisfying. The staff were friendly as well. What my wife and I enjoyed the most was our guide (Chico)! He was simply awesome!!Very personable and professional. We knew that we were in very capable hands all the way from our arrival to departure. His experience during the tour of the wetlands and jungle were priceless! He is a true gem! The hotel package was quite the good value and 2 days was perfect for our stay! Gracias Chico! Pura Vida! very good . relaxing atmosphere. beds comfortable. fan works well. hot water. pool great. liked food, kids less. walk on beach to town for great pizza at budah Cafe. overall, seemed Laguna lodge understaffed and not overly excited to be working. didnt do turtle tour, understood from group before us that it wasn't too eventful. for price charged decided could be missed. why so expensive to go on night turtle walk? Laguna tour lovely but also uneventful and my butt hurt on seat after 2hr.. felt long. not a lot of animals. nice views. peaceful. nothing more. can't recommend, also can't not recommend... it is what it is, relaxing not eventful.

I think for everyone who comes here, they need to know this is no luxury. If you are aware of that (as some reviews commend on certain aspects) then you will be content. I really liked the place. It has wonderful grounds with amazing flora as if one is botanical gardens. The design of a place I found interesting too with Antoni Gaudi -type of mosaic on bridges and reception walls. The cottages were simple with beds and bathrooms and not much else, but for our stay of two nights and a few tours, you are anyway spending time outside, so you dont need much more. We had a power outage, but I knew this might happen from revs before, and we had torches and were ready. The only thing that I wish was different was shower: the water pressure was very low with water only trickling down, not sufficient for a shower. But again, I do understand, it is such a remote place and building an infrastructure can be a challenge. Included in our stay was a water "safari" which was nice but my husband did a separate kayak tour and if you really want to do some game spotting, do this. The motor of the boats scare away the animals and you wont see as much as in kayak.

I'll be blunt here: almost no hotel in Tortuguero has AC. So I feel bad giving a 4 rather than a 5. (I think there's literally only one hotel that has AC). But it really is unfortunate that there is no AC. At night it was hot. During the day it was brutal. Luckily, there's a pool that helped us cool down. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. They let us check out late and were very helpful figuring out the national parks pass and other things. Be aware that with most of the lodges (including this one), you will be paying for a boat taxi to go back and forth from the town to the lodge. We typically paid $5-10 bucks each time. I like being on boats and on the water and it was kind of a cool thing, but just be aware.
