We knew Tortuguero National Park was going to be remote, and it certainly was. We were not expecting the 2 hour bus drive down a bumpy dirt road followed by the 1.5 hour boat ride on the canals that it took to get to the...More
We had reservations about going to Tortuguero National Park but in the end we were glad we went. It was one of the more expensive parts of our month in Costa Rica but the three day/ two night package was full of activities including the...More
As soon as we arrived at the Pachira Lodge we were catered to by the staff. The beautiful jungle setting was relaxing and we really enjoyed our stay. We went on the canal tour at 5am and saw 3 kinds of monkeys, a sloth, many...More
This is a beautiful area to be able to view the animals and nature of Costa Rica. It is a long bumpy ride on an interesting dirt road by banana plantations and then a boat ride to Pachira, but oh how relaxing when you get...More

There were security walking around at night, must admit the place felt very safe, only way to get there is by boat. there is a safe in your room for valuables. Guess like any trip you just have to be careful and attentive. Wonderful place to visit, lots of wild life and very close to nature. Staff at resort are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy your trip.

Sorry, just saw this. No. Pachira lodge plans all of your activities. It's all inclusive and because of the remote nature of the trip, they plan everything. You can do zips or other activities during free time, but I'd recommend zipping in another CRan town. This is quite a unique experience and with all the activities they had, I chose to lounge by the pool and read.
