The weather was quite wet which influenced my review. The accommodation (no hot water in the sink - tough to shave) and food was basic to mid level. Some of our group liked this level and the opportunities to see birds.

As suggested previously, this lodging very much feels like a conveyor belt holiday. Lot in, lot out: an exercise in logistics. However, the setting is amazing in beautifully colouring and biologically diverse secondary rainforest. The first morning I (and probably everyone else) was awoken by a howler monkey. Yet this, coupled with a playful couple in the lodge next to...

The lodge was basic, as expected, what was not expected was to be part of a herd and ordered around so much. Wait there, no there, eat at 7 - 1 - 7 (or go hungry) sit where you're told, unless you're told to move.... food was basic and edible, not much more can be said about that. Felt as...

The only access to Tortuguero is via a sea plane or a boat from Canyo Blanco Pier. It takes about and hour and a half from the pier to Pachira along the main canal. At Pachira's jetty there is a bar and swimming pool and a reception office hidden in the trees. Accommodation is in blocks of four rooms in...

Our tour details did state that rooms are basic and fan cooled, but our room was perfectly adequate (although there are no windows, only mesh covering the openings!). The small town of Tortuguero survives on tourists, so beware, though you're not pestered at all. The waterway safari was superb, with knowledgable guides, who can spot wildlife at 100yards!! One highlight...

Our first taste of Costa Rica apart from a few hours in a San Jose hotel. A nice introduction the Costa Rica, after a drive from San Jose and then a boat transfer, we eventually arrived, a welcome sight and a welcome drink too. The rooms are basic but adequate. The stay is full board and also includes a boat...

From the moment we were picked up by the taxi in San Jose we felt part of an expedition. The distance and timings are very long. (2 hours sj to guapiles, 1.5 from guapiles to the dock and 1.5hours on a boat to the hotel). Our guide Manuel was brilliant - he even allowed an impromptu stop at the rainforest...

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour of Costa Rica. The setting and grounds of this hotel are fantastic, just walking from your room to the restaurant or pool you can spot many beautiful plants and animals/birds, but they also have a roped rainforest walk where you can spot many howler monkeys, toucans and sloths. The...

Costa Rica has been on my 'to visit' list for a long time. Pachira Lodge in Tortuguero was more than I ever expected. The lodge is just great with bungalows spread out in a tropical garden, birds singing in the trees overhanging your room and colibris showing off their great colors just in front of your bungalow. The food is...

Visited in February and had a wonderful 3 days, the lodge was comfortable, food really enjoyable, and the boat trips allowed us to see an incredible variety of wildlife, helped by the excellent guides. If you like wildlife this is an excellent lodge to go to.
