There is a vast amount of birds and mammals to be seen in this area. Most trips are on the water which is a great way to explore. Sloths, toucans and iguana are plentiful and there is an abundance of exotic bird life. Mawamba Lodge itself is lovely with great grounds for exploring. If you are fortunate enough to have...

No complaints except, by the end, felt a little like a holiday camp. Amazing location though and rooms lovely and clean. Staff great too. Food could be better. Brilliant trips available too and the village nearby is lovely.

The Mawamba Lodge was a great adventure for our family. We started our journey on a long shared van ride from Arenal and finished it was an Disney Jungle Cruise--Indian Jones boat trip down shallow rivers and canals. The boat trip was an adventure on its own! Due to low water and the trip took a little longer than planned,...

This was our first stop after San Jose on our honeymoon. It was quite a trek to get to the lodge (2 hours on bus + 1.5 hours on a boat), but the time flew quickly because the tour guide (Jorge) and the scenery was awesome. We had a larger cabin on the canal side (34) which was great. Every...

This is a beautiful property with canal and sea access. Very unique!! The early morning boat tour was wonderful. The food was great and the room was very nice. There is a lovely butterfly garden. We were only there for 2 days and nights but it was wonderful. The lodge gift shop is very nice and it's only a short...

From pickup at our hotel to the very final end service they gave us - superb!! Our guide Stephen Weston was a walking encyclopedia. Ask for him on your booking form. Food was ok and rooms very clean. I also recommend the early morning boat tour; you get really close with nature. One dodgy issue is the internet connection, not...

We were there for only a few days but it was a very busy time. The cabins are just that, large but very simple. Windows are screened but not glazed - shutters are all the privacy one gets. Many rooms have a common porch, so if your modest you need to close-up when changing. Rooms were clean. Hot water was...

Tortuguero in Costa Rica is like an Island in the sense that you can only get there by boat or airplane. Costa Rica has the highest biodiversity in the world and here you understand why. The hotel is very well conceived because it is in harmony with the environment and it protects it by using ecological systems for treating human...

Between the Carribean and the Canal Mawamba is sweet. I felt like I was at Camp. The rooms are in Cabns , are spacious and good water pressure. There is no AC so leave the fan on. The pathways around the Lodge and into a tortuguero at user friendly. Although all of Costa Rica is Wild Kingdom you are definitely...

From the pick up from out hotel, breakfast en route and the boat ride in we knew we were going to be well looked after, Humberto our guide kept the information going the whole journey and then looked after us for all our boat rides, walks and ate with the group at lunch and dinner. Our room was simple but...
