The hotel is right across from the airstrip and you get a warm welcome from the staff, rooms are really good. surrounded by rivers and rain forest, the guides are very knowledgeable and will try to find the wildlife you are looking for. The food is good although the menu is limited. Overall a great place

Staying at Tortuga Lodge was the highlight of our holiday in Costa Rica. Being right by Tortuguero National Park, we thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the park, walking along the beach and especially enjoyed the nature walks we took in the gardens on the Lodge (offered free or charge). From moment we arrived, all members of staff were very kind,...

My husband and I wanted to get away for a short trip for our 2-year anniversary. This was our first visit to Costa Rica but not our first trip to the Caribbean. Our goals were to spend some time relaxing and to see some wildlife. Our criteria was an all-inclusive resort but without the spring break crowd since this was...

Our stay at Tortuga Lodge was wonderful. It is so peaceful and relaxing! The bed was very comfortable. The porches were our favorite place to visit, watch the rain and enjoy the river. The open air dining room added to the ambiance and the food was very good. You will never go hungry! All of the staff members were friendly...

Dear peggy6171, You're right, laying in a hammock on a porch that is facing the Tortuguero River is special. Our guests tell us that they also love the view from the pool and from the hammock house at the end of the property where there are hammocks and tables where you can sit and read, work on your art, meditate...

We spent 3 nights here after being on a birding trip. We were lucky enough to meet Priscilla who took us out into the national forest where we continued to see numerous birds, monkey's all three and other wild life. When they found out we were birders Priscilla worked really hard at helping us find birds to add to our...

We recently spent 4 nights at this magical lodge. The setting is perfect for a stay in the jungle. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were rustic....but "good" rustic. Room was clean, beds comfortable, and windows only had screens which was great for communing with nature, while keeping the bugs out. The howler monkeys did their thing...

La Tortuga is an amazing sanctuary in the rain forest jungle. The rooms are screened in without windows so that you can enjoy the sounds of the jungle. The howler monkeys were active in the evening and in the morning. We did not need to use the ear plugs that were supplied during the night. The accommodations and food were...

Dear wienerdogsdad, You make an excellent point, binoculars will make your trip even more exciting. We recommend (8x42), 7x32 minimum (getting a closer look at wildlife is really rewarding). There are some very good binoculars being made now and they're not as expensive as they used to be. If you can swing it, and you love wildlife, they are a...

We only stayed one night in Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, but had a wonderful stay. The gardens are breath-taking with so much wildlife.
