OK so you need to think through what you are going to Tortugero for in order to work out what you want from your time there and from a hotel.
The first thing to bear in mind is that everything here is brought in by...More
This is a very basic hotel for the high price. On the positive side it is a rather unique location being situated completely within a rain forest. You can only access it via boat, the housing is on stilts and connected via walkways. Rather large...More
Stayed here for two nights as part of our tour. Loved the individual cabanas. Rooms are basic, clean and a good size. No air conditioning, just a very efficient ceiling fan. Mosquito mesh for windows which seemed to do the trick. We didn't get bitten...More
I have to be honest when I say that I was skeptical when I knew that there would be no AC in the rooms. I was even afraid on how my husband and my teen daughter would react when they would find out about it...More
The location is perhaps the very best thing about the Lodge, the setting in the park and the abundance of wildlife makes it quite special. We saw a caiman, turtles, poison dart frogs and a variety of monkeys within the grounds of the Lodge itself...More

I was on a tour and had my transit from the peer to the lodge. I'm sure with how busy the peer was that you could get transport to the nearest big town, a short taxi ride to the pier then get on a boat at that transit pier.We also visited a tourist site by boat from the lodge so maybe there is transport to there also. Can't remember what the name of this was but it was where the river exited to the beach.

I don't recall seeing a hairdryer. Depending on how long you stay - if it is 2 days, wash & dry your hair the night before you arrive and let the humidity take care of it - I loved the effect. However if you have tendency to wash your underwear and socks in the sink, you need to have the hairdryer to dry it, otherwise you will wait for 3-4 + days. Even my books needed 'drying' for simply being there.
