My self and boyfriend went to Banana Azul the last week of April, 2013. Colin the owner was there and we learned of why he fell in love with the area and the improvements that he had made. He is from Canada. We had the Howler Monkey room which is the best and well worth the little extra money! I...

Banana Azul is an awesome place to stay if you wish to visit the caribean coast of Costa Rica! The site is beautiful and clean and very peaceful. The rooms are nice in size, clean and well maintained. We stayed in the room upstairs, just to the left of the entry gate, and our friends stayed in the room next...

We stayed four nights in Banana Azul. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Bar tenders were great. We arranged our rafting trip on the Rio Pacuare with a company on site at BA. It was awesome. Best part of the trip. They also rent bikes which we used regularly.

What an amazing, gorgeous, and perfect hotel! The staff was incredible, and went well beyond our expectations to make our stay an unforgettable one. We were celebrating two birthdays and they prepared a wonderful dinner inside the hut by the pool, and topped it off with a delicious cake from a local bakery! The hotel is very relaxing and perfect...

We have the most wonderful time in Puerto Viejo. We were looking for a place that would allow us to truly unwind- no phones, no tv, no internet- this was the place. The beach was beautiful- tons of stray dogs and wandering dogs would always stop in to visit- very loving and unobtrusive. The staff was wonderful- they made some...

From the minute we arrived, this place was awesome!! Their new rooms are unbelievable, with hot tubs, indoor hammocks, and a sun room. They have their own restaurant, and the food is excellent. Just a short stroll from the beach. The grounds have beautiful landscaping, and it is a joy to walk in the garden. All in all we felt...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of fourteen beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans, and free wireless internet. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Gecko Trail Adventures tour company is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
