We stayed in one of the Ocean Rooms. The room was beautiful and very clean. There was a great breeze from the ocean all night which kept us very comfortable. I read a few reviews about mosquitos however I stayed here for an entire week, did not apply any repellent and didn't sustain a single bite. The grounds of the...

Thank you for the lovely comments. Lately we've been enjoying sunny days and some rainy nights, which makes for great sleeping weather. We really enjoyed having you stay with us and hope you can come back to visit!

This property is off the beaten path, has a great beach, a variety of interesting rooms, good food, and very helpful staff. We have only positive things to say about Banana Azul and have no reservations recommending it to friends. Since we had already spent several days in Puerto Viejo, we were fine to be outside of town. If this...

Hey Brad. Much appreciated for your great review. I am happy you liked the Red Frog room. It was the first guest room I built. A friend that was staying in my guest room took it upon himself to do the mosaic of the red frog in the shower (hence the name). While living upstairs, we rented the red frog...

We ate here often & the food is really good but when I ask if they had room availability & was told the rooms are expensive & we were directed to Be My Guest Cabinas. I thought that was odd for the receptionist to assume we couldn't afford a room. That should have been up to us to decide. Well...

Out group recently stayed in the Tree House apartment and the Red Frog Suite. There were six of us and we had a wonderful time. The tree house apartment is lovely and mostly all open which was amazing. You could hear birds all the time and the lush plants were beautiful. The beach was a stone's throw and could be...

Thanks so much for your great review. I am always happy to hear people that enjoy The Apartment & The Red Frog rooms. This building was my dream home after moving from Canada. It was so exciting to all of a sudden be living in a wood home with almost no walls. It was the first building we built on...

We had a wonderful stay at Banana Azul. The grounds are beautiful, full of wildlife and birds and its a peaceful place to relax with great atmosphere. We (F 53 y.+F 22 y.) stayed 10 nights in a beautiful room with private balcony and garden and ocean view. The bar and the restaurant is very well organised (Thanks to Ronny!)...

Hola. Great to hear you had a wonderful time. I am happy to hear the staff was taking good care of you both. Very few people stay 10 nights. I always think people will get bored. Obviously, it seems you did not. Hope we can host you again. Cheers, Colin.

We made sure to book Hotel Banana Azul during our stat in Puerto Viejo. At first it is a little concerning getting to the hotel as it is off a long, rocky road. However, when you reach the hotel it is magnificent! The grounds are well kept, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We stayed in one of the 8 ocean...

I wanted really badly to like this place, but there were a number of things that made me take away a couple of stars. We picked Banana Azul based on the remote, uncrowded beach, however, management brings in busloads of cruise passengers (I'm guessing), who seemed to all smoke. Once the buses come in (at 9am and 1pm), it's impossible...

Thank you for choosing us while visiting Puerto Viejo, as well as the comments regarding your stay. We did recently start working with the cruise lines to receive visitors twice per month for 2 hours. We are still working on logistics to make sure our guests have first priority when it comes to "prime real estate" at the beach club....

We only stayed a couple of nights, but I could definitely see myself staying there longer. When we come back to Costa Rica, we absolutely will. Normally I consider a hotel room to be just a place to sleep and store my stuff, this was the place that you come home to at the end of a day. Every detail...

I've been to Puerto Viejo several times over the years, and have stayed a few different places, mostly down-scale, since I generally travel alone. This year, however, I decided to bring my family with me and make sure they experienced the best of everything. Between the fine management and staff of Banana Azul and the helpful folks at Caribe Fun...

We found this place after searching on line for an interesting, non commercialized area with high quality amenities. We found it. This place is a gem on the Caribbean. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of fourteen beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans, and free wireless internet. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Gecko Trail Adventures tour company is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
