We stayed 7 nights at BA in Feb 2017. We stayed in 3 different rooms so I think I got a fairly good idea of the property. First off the new 4 room Villas Verde across the street is a absolutely fantastic property that I wish I was able to stay in the entire time. You will fall in love...

Great hotel located near an amazing beach. We loved staying here ! Such a relaxed vibe. Our family of 3, two adults and a teenager loved our suite. It was perfect for us but could have easily had room for another guest. We loved the fact guests had excess to bikes to use all day. There's a yoga studio just...

This place was so beautiful and quiet and classy. The food is amazing, including the eggs Benedict for breakfast to the filet mignon with pepper sauce for dinner! The staff is attentive and helpful and the rooms are more than comfortable. Great Job people! We hope to return.

We stayed at Banana Azul for 5 nights and treated ourselves to the villa which even though it was not facing the sea, it gave us plenty of peaceful seclusion and privacy. The facilities are great, very well thought out and maintained. The whole place just oozes relaxation and romance. But the best thing about it are the people who...

Thanks very much for your wonderful review of our villas. I am happy to hear our staff helped make your vacation special. Your suggestion of hammocks is a good one. I assume you were talking about on the beach. We used to have them and it was something I was just thinking about bringing back. We don't charge for them....

This boutique hotel made for our perfect honeymoon (and I don't take the word "perfect" lightly). The grounds are beautiful and make you feel like you are in paradise. The room was clean (and cleaned every day). The place was quiet, very laid back, and calming. Mix the atmosphere with their delicious cocktails and it was the perfect way to...

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. They really seemed like a happy team of people. We enjoyed the breakfast options and had dinner here one night as well. Split decision on dinner. We thought that we would be getting a room in the lodge but ended up at a property a short walk from the lodge....

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We also feel that the staff is what makes Banana Azul such a special place. It takes a lot of teamwork to make each guest enjoy their vacation experience and leave feeling even better than when they arrived. As you mentioned, you stayed at Casa Las Brisas, which is the...

Thanks Nikki. Coming from someone in the industry, I will take that as a real compliment. It was a treat hosting your group as it easy to host happy people. I hope our paths cross again. Cheers, Colin.

Only one word can describe our 7-day vacation. AMAZING! Amazing property, amazing staff, amazing food, amazing black beaches, amazing community. Loved the rustic nature of the hotel - small and quaint and very personable. Definitely the best of both worlds in Costa Rica, the jungle feel with beautiful carribiean waters.

This hotel is very well managed, you really get the feeling that the people that works there is really happy about their work. Tariq in the restaurant is a real star - very attentive and service minded. The food is the only reason the rating isn't five - the breakfast could be better. We stayed in one of the villas...

Hola Leni. Our new Villas have been a real hit with most guests. I am glad that overall you had a great stay. Sorry to hear we came up a bit short on food. I was wondering if you could take a moment to send me a message and tell us how you think we could have made breakfast better....

I just stayed at this lovely little 'resort' for 5 nights. It took a long time working with my travel agency (Pacific Trade Winds if I can get a plug in!) as they appeared intent on sending folks to the Pacific Coast as first choice. I wanted something less crowded, on the beach, and more 'bohemian'! Banana Azul has it...

Thanks for your comprehensive review. It's very helpful for other guests trying to determine whether we are a good fit for their vacation. Yes, for years we have struggled with travel agencies not suggesting the South Caribbean of Costa Rica for their vacation. On some levels, I understand their concern. Our area is unique and more undeveloped and while that...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of fourteen beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans, and free wireless internet. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Gecko Trail Adventures tour company is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
