This was my first time staying at a hostel on a solo trip! The staff were SOOOO nice and helpful! I had a blast meeting/hanging out with the other guests. I will definitely be taking another trip to Puerto Viejo and staying at La Ruka in the future!

La Ruka was a friendly, quiet hostel. We went there after a night at Rocking J's. The staff is very friendly as well as the people staying there. It was almost like a big family when we stayed there. The price was great and the beds were fine. The courtyard is a nice place to read a book or relax....

The good: the staff are some of the nicest I've ever met. They have a delicious cheap breakfast, rates are reasonable, and $5 bike rentals. Facilities were nice. The bad: it would be great if they could bug proof the rooms. Our window mesh was full of holes at the door is just an open grate. The bugs made for...

I've been on the road for nearly 5 months, come through 3 countries and hands down La Ruka is my favourite place to stay so far. The atmosphere is so incredibly friendly, everyone is happy to chat and you'll make new friends easily. Super chilled, you can easily spend days doing nothing or you can rent a bike from the...

I spent a lot of time walking around Puerto Viejo before deciding on a hostel. Less than a 10 minute walk from downtown (or 3 minute bike ride), La Ruka's tagline of "home away from home" was what drew me in. I wasn't looking for a loud party hostel and I wanted to be near downtown but not fully in...

Mixed feelings about this one. On one hand I enjoyed a relaxed vibe, well equipped kitchen, communal area room and dorms with an en suite bathroom. But it was well overpriced for the New Year's Eve period, and with that no breakfast included, not even a coffee, also long walk to the centre. Overall really cosy and welcoming, super friendly...

We actually stayed at another hostel close by and decided to change for this hostel. The staff are really nice and comfortable to be around. Beds are comfy, and the outside area is very nice and relaxed. We really enjoyed staying here even though one of us where sick. Hot (shared with one room) shower, and a fan at the...

I love this place! Only stayed here a couple nights but it felt so much like home. The staff is incredible - so friendly and caring going out of their way to help us! There were giant lockers in our dorm where we could fit our whole backpacks, it was great. The kitchen is seriously amazing! Best hostel kitchen I've...

What you get is only good vibes. I stayed quite a many weeks, and everything was just great. It's a nice and relaxed place. Owners are really sweet, and they make sure, that their crew (volunteers, workers etc) are the best as well, to make sure you have wonderful time while staying with them. Rooms are clean and tidy. They...
