I travelled in July with my 14-year-old daughter. It was a perfect introduction to responsible and conscientious travelling. The grounds are beautiful and everything seemed to be prepared with thoughtfulness and love. We travelled to other tourist areas after our stay and the contrast was huge. This is not a tourist destination for luxury seeking tourists. It was truly a...

After a long drive we arrived at Chilimate to be greeted by Mehgan and her husband David. We were offered a choice of rooms and opted for the one with the biggest decking area. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, although the lack of AC made it quite difficult to sleep as it was very hot and humid during our stay.The...

We stayed for 2 nights at the start of our honeymoon. Considering the location the facilities here are very good. We had hot water, Wi-Fi and, perhaps most impressively, no bugs in our room at all! The scenery is amazing - relaxing in our hammocks on the edge of the rainforest was a particular highlight. The guided tour with William...

You are in the rain forest and you really can feel what living there is really like. A true eco retreat with great organic food and wonderful host family and staff. We even got to participate in the cook's birthday party. Only five cabins and a dorm make for an intimate experience. Tucked across the river and near a swimming...

An amazingly relaxing as well as fascinating place to stay with a feeling of total immersion in nature. The hosts are full of knowledge about the local rainforest as well as recommendations of local tours and activities. They could not be more helpful and accommodating. Our family had endless entertainment from spotting nature, swimming in the river, swinging and relaxing...

We booked the top floor of the Jungle House lodge for a family of 5. We were disappointed and only stayed one night instead of 3. I can't comment on the other accommodation available. The top floor had sofas with holes in them and the windows had mosquito frames that did not fit properly with big gaps. We didn't have...

No pool but a wonderful river swimming experience. A tour of the surrounding forrest is offered with a guide working at the hotel where we could namely spot slothes and monkeys. Do not expect...

We had a fantastic stay here at the beginning of our honeymoon. The retreat is well laid out and the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Mechanic (one of the owners) certainly went the extra mile and helped us retrieve one of our bags which we left at an overnight stay in San Jose and managed to get it sent...

The Chilamate rainforest eco retreat is a friendly and quite lodge in an excellent setting. Unlike most lodges in the area it is situated on the far side of the Sarapiqui River and quite distant from the rather busy road. It enjoys a wonderful and tranquil ambience. The accommodation cabins are clean and spacious. These are not luxury cabins but...

The food was buffet style and accommodated us as vegetarians very well. Best food of our trip. The night hike was incredible (saw a coral snake). The local guides were incredible, knowledgeable, and great with kids. We saw monkeys and heard them through out the day. This area can be relatively hot (when were there even the locals said it...
