Eugenia made us feel welcome from the get-go. This is a quiet little hotel on the main road with what would be excellent views of the volcano in clear weather. We had clouds, but the villas are delightful and comfortable. The garden is exquisite and...More
Stayed here for 5 nights with a car. It's about 2km west (uphill) of Fortuna centre so a car was great for flexibility - reckon we saved the cost and more in taxis!
Room was great, nice porch, cracking view of volcano when not covered...More
This is a lovely little hotel with beautiful gardens that attract brilliantly colored wild birds. It is very clean and comfortable with a great pool. The breakfasts are delicious with hot coffee, fresh fruit, eggs, toast, or pancakes. It is quiet and relaxing and everyone...More
We were so fortunate to happen upon this wonderful family-run hotel. We stayed for 5 nights and would have liked to stay longer! The grounds were lovely with beautiful flowers and the view of the volcano from the hotel was spectacular. Free roaming chickens and...More
This is a nice place on the outskirts of La Fortuna. Not walkable to the town so a car is needed.
Rooms were nice, clean with a large bathroom, high ceilings. Our room had a outdoor seating area with four chairs and a table. Rocking...More

I think there were 8 rooms at la Roca Negra. They were each detached cabinas with a little porch and garden. The hotel is not in the town, it is up the little highway. You can walk to a restaurant but it is a few blocks. We had a rental car and we drove into the downtown for dinner, and one night we ate at Baldi, the huge fancy hotsprings resort. We drove there from San Jose. Beautiful drive! Not far. I think Liberia airport is about the same distance. By the way, Liberia airport looked easier to navigate, much less crowded and more oriented to tourists than San Jose. But I would inquire somewhere else about travel from Liberia to La Fortuna.
Have a nice trip, Costa Rica is a lovely country!
