We highly recommend this hotel. Our room had a beautiful view of the volcano. Being in the park is great, however, the road coming in is unpaved so be prepared for a bumpy ride. We took the evening lava tour and the complimentary morning hike both with Christian as our guide. Christian was very knowledgeable about nature and was able...

Thank you all for your candid comments. We are working hard to improve our rooms, exteriors and many others facilities. As we are nestled in the middle of the rain forest, you will be immersed in the natural environment, away from the busy life... stay in touch with the sounds of the nature. We will be more than happy to...

In my opinion, this is the best place to stay at in Arenal Volcano area. This is the only hotel inside the park, and reservations can be hard to come by. But the location and the view are fantastic and are worth the high room rate! I really wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed a little more. Try...

My boyfriend and I visited the Observatory Lodge Feb 3-5, 2013. We found the accomodations wonderful! Every morning we could sit up in bed, look out the sliding glass doors and see the volcano. (the only thing that would have made this view any better would have been some "innocent" volcanic activity..you know, a little lava spurting out....) We loved...

We stayed 3 nights in a standard room. The room (#40) was clean, very nice decor a big patio and had a great view of Arenal Lake. Hummingbirds flitted in the flowers in front of the patio. It is a fairly long steep walk down (or up) from the main lodge. Ok if you want exercise unless it is raining....

What this resort lacks in room luxuries it makes up for in amenities and grounds. The rooms need a serious makeover and with the amount of people that were there it is obvious that they could afford to put some profits into updates. On the other hand the pool and hot tub were really impressive and a joy to lounge...

It looks like better location doesn't exist. Food is acceptable, rooms are good enough, but area is the best and beats all other places. You are in the pine-tree forest, with many trails started from the lodge, plus whatever you expect to find in the good place - people, pool, bar, comfort.

The Observatory Lodge can almost be considered to be a tourist attraction in and of itself.Set right in front of Arenal's massive bulk, we were lucky to have an almost full view of the cone most of the time. The long, bumpy, bone shaking 25 minute ride to get there is, in a way, part of the lodge's appeal., It...

If they have availability on your dates of travel, do not hesitate to book here. The view of the volcano and lake arenal are great. Wonderful trails for hiking and good tours. Rooms were clean and good size. The restaurant was ok with reasonable prices. We weren't interested in the more touristy LaFortuna area and really enjoyed the seclusion.

We are a family of five (two adults, three kids ages 14, 12, and 6) and we stayed at the observatory lodge for four days of our month-long Costa Rica trip. The room was spacious, clean, and had a good view of the lake and part of the volcano. We had the casona with a shared bathroom. The view of...

Situated only 1.7 Miles from the majestic Arenal Volcano and with a spectacular view of Lake Arenal, the Arenal Observatory Lodge (AOL) offers guests the opportunity to DISCOVER, EXPLORE and RELAX. Located within the Arenal Conservation Area and surrounded by rainforests and nature, AOL sits on a 870 acres property, which consists of 400 acres of reforestation, 270 acres of natural forest and 200 acres of cultivated land. The hotel offers 48 comfortable rooms surrounded by gardens, the majority with a direct view of the volcano and/or the forest. Approximately 400 species of birds live in the area making AOL a preferred destination for bird watchers. Activities at the hotel include hikes to the waterfall or to explore Cerro Chato (an extinct volcano with a small lake in the crater), horseback riding, bicycling through the trails, enjoying a refreshing swim in our pool, or simply relaxing with a massage in our SPA. The hotel is well located to serve as a base for a variety of excursions such as: Cano Negro Nature Refuge, hot springs, Venado Caves, Canopy Tours, Arenal Hanging Bridges, Fishing, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Biking etc. It also serves as a very interesting stop before heading on to Monteverde Cloud Forest or to the beaches of the Pacific coast.
