The place does not seem to be well known to taxi-drivers (even with a translation into Chinese). Although the location is good if one has to visit Pudong, the hotel's location is right in one of the red-light districts (not really negative though...). Nice reception, speedy check-in, helpful staff, although language skills are poor.

My stay during July 06 to July 10 2009 was good experience as it was central locationa and good ambient hotel. also the staff of the hotel is very courteous and helpful if you are in need of some help. The Lobby area needs some size increment and bath cubicles in the room also need size increases. Please make internet WIFI in the whole hotel and rooms free and easily available. Overall satisfied with hotel.

The good thing about the Hoade Wanyuan hotel is its location on Pudong Avenue. If work brings you to this part of town, then are aren't too many properties that will cost you less than CNY 350, like this one.

Having said that, there's not much else to write home about. The rooms are OK, but the upkeep of the hotel is not up to the mark. The staff don't speak English, which was challenge since I needed some help with getting a taxi late at night. The breakfast was complementary, but only local food was on offer.

Checked in late at night without a problem. Overall impression was that the place had not been well maintained for a long time. The room smelled like an ashtray. There was a cigarette butt on the carpet in the hallway.
The room was a suite, but very small bedroom, very small bathroom.
A lot of traffic noise through the night did not help.
I was offered a different room the next day, but decided to move to a different hotel.

Stayed here on a business trip in July 2012. Check in was quick although no one on reception spoke any English. Fortunately a Chinese colleague had booked my room so after handing over my passport my details were quickly found. Was able to check in at 9am which was nice after an overnight flight from UK.

Room was very large with super-king bed. Very firm bed but clean bedding and duvet rather than sheets & blankets. Carpet on floor had a lot of stains which was a bit off putting. Small bathroom, no bath, but shower was fine. Small fridge in room and strange seperate kitchen area which I didn't use but had gas hob, microwave & sink.

Large old TV in room but didn't use, wired Internet access worked but was very slow. No WIFI.

The 3rd floor should have gym, steam rooms, library, bar etc but all locked up and clearly not been open in months - very dissapointing.

2nd floor restaurant was OK. Had breakfast a couple of times but nothing to write home about - buffet style attempt at western fused with Chinese! Dinner was pleasant enough and reasonably priced by western standards, but not cheap by Chinese.

Air conditioning in room was very noisy. Options are no sleep because of the noise or no sleep because of the heat.

All in all not a bad experience but should have paid £30 a night more for better or £50 a night more for really quite nice hotel in much nicer area. I paid £52 per night for upgraded room (apparently!)

I took English tea bags, coffee, sugar and porridge pots which were a God send. Bought milk from little shop opposite hotel.

We ended up here as no other hotel rooms available at a decent price due to some conference. The entree, lobby and corridors are not looking that fresh anymore but the room is very good. We booked a business room, it was spacy and also had a separate kitchen. Free wired Internet with reasonable speed. Very good beds. Didn't try the food or the gym. Overall a good room for a decent price, around $75 per night and 5 minutes walk from the subway station. I will consider staying here again. Be aware of all the spicy girl bars across the hotel.
Note the hotel entry is NOT at Pudong Avenue.

We stayed there one night. Checked in, took a hot shower, ordered room service - the meal was terrific. The bed was fine, the room was large enough, - really a pleasant surprise. The buffet breakfast in the morning was not impressive. But a short walk down the street are plenty of restaurants. We are planning on staying there again. I think we paid $66 USD for one night.

Location of hotel is quite good for crossing over by taxi to Puxi or going to Lujiajui. Unfortunately, its ambience and accessibility is somewhat spoilt by ongoing Metro construction work on Pudong Avenue. Neighbourhood is a little dusty but not unduly noisy. Room offers good size and comfort, without any unnecessary features or over-intrusive service. Another plus is the convenience of dining at the 2 wonderful Chinese restaurants on either side of the Pudong Avenue entrance. One is a popular Sichuan restaurant; the other a newly opened "Fusion" place featuring interesting dishes like Foie Gras done Chinese-style and Prime Mutton sourced from Hainan.

The location is quite good as it near to subway station at Pudong Avenue. The room is quite big and spacious. However, will not consider staying there again as the internet access is very expensive, the room is quite old with muddy smell causing some kind of breathing difficulties. Most of the taxi driver do not know where is the hotel location and tends to look for it for quite some time even though given the chinese name. It's better to tell them the road name is "Changyi Road" then what the hotel's address shown in the internet. No good food nearby, therefore it's better to have your meal somewhere else before returning the hotel.

One night stay at the hotel, just for a quick lay-over in Shanghai. Overall impressions was very good, I would definitely stay there again. I’m not sure how good the location is because I did not have much time to explore given I only intended a stay there to catch some sleep. The room itself was clean and a lot more spacious then I expected in comparison to some other hotels in China. Good points: clean, rather new, spacious, cool A/C, helpful staff(I speak mandarin). Bad points: taxi drivers were not familiar with the hotel so had to call to get directions. Considering the price $50 for one night, this was an excellent experience
