The five-star Shanghai JC Mandarin Hotel will suspend operations next year as it repositions itself to offer a mixed business. It denied reports that the hotel would be sold, sources within Jin Jiang Hotels Group said yesterday. The hotel, opened in 1990, is set to transform into offices, apartments and a boutique hotel under a strategy to integrate assets under...

We stayed in this hotel for a 2 day visit to Shanghai, very nice but a little antiquated, maybe 10 years outdated. The hotel and rooms are very clean and you have all your needs covered by what the hotel offers. Personnel, food and facilities are very well managed, next time I might look for a newer hotel but this...

Average hotel with all that a business traveller can expect, and is located in a reasonably convenient area near offices and malls. Rooms are a little dated and would do with a more updated look in such a cosmopolitan city.

The rooms have not been updated for many years but still a very good hotel. Excellent located on Nanjing Road close to good shopping and reasturants. Very good gym in the hotel. Quick room service. Great and huge breakfast but a bit expensive. Overall good value for money.

Very convenient if you have to go the exhibition center. Nothing luxurious, but excellent if you are on business. Confortable rooms, decent service, good location and reasonable prices. Breakfast a little too busy and confusing.

I found a reasonable deal on this hotel so decided to book it, mostly because of the location, i wasn't disappointed. Close to main shopping road, shanghai stroke me as a very corrupted place, i was constantly and repeatedly offered with drugs and prostitutes while i walked around the crowded road full of fancy shops....... The hotel in and on...

What a perfect location for first-timers to Shanghai. We loved the breakfast buffet as the choices were bountiful. I'm a coffee lover and was surprised that their coffee ("Ocean" brand) was excellent. The concierge was most helpful in helping us to get to all the key sights. We stayed for 14 days and all was kept clean daily.

We had an issue getting the rooms cool enough during the middle of the summer. We stayed here one night and needed to move. We could not get the room below 25C. Although that may seem fine for most we keep our home around 69. From Houston, I am accustom to the heat and humidity but it was very uncomfortable...

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

“There is a small (okay, TINY) convenience store about one block from the hotel. Exit the front door and turn to your right, staying on the right side on Nanjing Road. Go to the next intersection that has a stop light and cross. The store is the second door and has a brightly lit sign when open. You can find sodas, water, snacks and sweets as well as sundry items like Superglue (6 RMB, which we know because we used sign language to ask for what we wanted.). Owner is very friendly. ALWAYS carry the hotel card which also has a bunch of other locales printed on it in English and Chinese. They are really useful if you get lost.”
