Location is good as close to Jing An temple. Rooms are a bit tired but clean for the price offered. Getting a taxi is a challenge as the main entrance is away from the main road. So have to wait for drop-offs. Walking to the main road to hail a cab will be a challenge.

We were in Shanghai in November. Be aware that China does NOT turn on their heat in hotels until the middle of November. Thank heaven I had packed a heavier pj. Having our clothes washed cost us $86. Don't get room 1815...the wind whistles at night. They couldn't get the window totally shut. We asked to be moved at 3... More

The hotel was pretty basic, which was expected given its price. The location is great, and is close to lots of attractions, including Jing'an Temple and shopping areas. The rooms are pretty small, and we had an issue with dampness - the carpets, the bedding, everything - it all smelled musty and moldy and felt wet to the touch. A... More

It appears the receptionist decide which rooms you will receive. Have stayed here 4 times now and find the rooms range from very good to tiny. Same price for rooms but size differs. Protesting helps and they move you to another room; one they should have put you in the first place. Breakfast is vast- European and Eastern. Location is... More

The staff were very rude and uncooperative, including the manager. An inordinately large deposit is taken at arrival for no apparent reason. It's a nice looking hotel but there are many others in Shanghai that are similarly priced with much friendlier staff.

I have stayed before in this hotel and so far it had been ok but now a really troublesome experience makes me reconsider. Here is what happened: Went out to have good and some beer and after 3 coffee and 3 beer in total (just to make sure that you understand that I was not drunk) went from Tongren Lu... More

We travelled Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Guilin, Yangsuo and Shanghai and had good hotels up until the Merry Hotel in Shanghai. Our guide warned us on the way from the airport that he had received numerous complaints from people about the hotel. In our 1st room (before we requested to be moved), the shower didn’t work (drip-like water pressure) and the... More

The Hotel is in a very good location to move around to other areas in Shanghai. Also to go to Pudong Trade Exhibition area by subway. It´s a good hotel for Chinese customers, but foreigners will always find something they do not like. The (Western) breakfast options are poor in quality and terrible in taste. Eat Chinese food. The gym... More

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
