i stay in this hotel every time i visit Shanghai for business trip, unless there s no room available. I have stayed seven days there for my last trip..and i suddenly felt that this hotel turned to be a home already. Not just because i stayed for long but all the staffs' kindness just made me felt comfortable as a...

With traveling as frequently as I do, I take hotel reviews quite seriously when considering where to book. This hotel is great as it is in a very accessible part of town, close to the metro, lots of taxis around.

Breakfast and service are all nice and various, beautiful lanscape and quiet atmosphere. However, the room decoration is not impressive at all, very much like in '30s of Shanghai, which made it look cheap in the outside.

Nice quiet place in a huge garden in the French Concession. Perfect to explore the night life in this area. Also easy to go to the Bund and more downtown by Taxi. Staff always helpful and kind. Breakfast ok. Swimmingpool good.

Went to Shanghai for a few days in November. Normally this property would have been too far off the beaten path for me. I was surprised by how beautiful the garden is. I spent more time in the gardens than the room. The hotel is few blocks from the main bus route and the metro but it was manageable. Throroughtly...

Reasonable rate. A clean spacious room. Nice lobby. Get the metro to Jiangsu road station on line 2 from Pudong Airport (then either a ten minute walk to the hotel or take a taxi - make sure you have the hotel name in Chinese characters for the driver). Hotel is set in a park. Breakfast was overpriced - go elsewhere...

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
