When arrived at late night, first look out of the taxi I thought this hotel looks old and dummy. But as soon as you enter you notice that all parts are renovated and well equiped. This is definitely an old historic building and feels great to be part of it as a visitor. My room was pretty large and clean....

Right across the street from People's park in a 1930s renovated YMCA building, nice rooms, very clean. The staff was helpful, spoke English well. The ground floor lobby is not impressive however the second floor is very nice. Breakfast was nice. A solid, clean affordable 3-4 star hotel.

The staff is very nice, although they have limited English. Expectations of the level of service, in general (but not always) compared to western standards, must be lowered. Tipping is not a common custom so that removes some motivation. They get paid the same regardless of their level of service. For example, when I approached the desk for a simple...

Nice and Quiet Hotel in a good location. Air conditioning very cold. Very near the Shanghai Metro station and lots of shopping, entertainment and restaurants nearby. There's a City Super supermarket about 5 mins walk from the hotel and a few Family Mart convenience store in the vicinity. English understood by the front desk. Would have given a 5-star review...

When researching the area it was clear for a good location it was expensive. I found this hotel and thought it was a good price for the location. 10 mins to people squire and 20 min walk to main shopping Street and 30 mins to the bund. Hotel check in and staff were good. Reception was basic but OK. Room...

This is a small hotel, but is very central, reasonably priced with excellent amenities. One of the best things for me after nearly 8 weeks of travelling (and the oppressive heat of Shanghai over the last week) was the proximity to the Metro. The beds were very comfortable and the staff are excellent - although some variability in english-proficiency -...

As per many of the reviews this is a very clean, spacious and well-located hotel with helpful and friendly English-speaking staff. We thought it was great value and very nice for a 3-star hotel. We had a few issues with delayed luggage and staff were great. You can walk to key locations like Yuyuan Gardens and along Nanjing Rd to...

Good clean well-equipped rooms. Buffet breakfast, mostly Chinese but with some Western dishes. Helpful staff with pretty good English. Very close to the Metro - leave Dashijie Station [line 8] by Exit 1, turn left and left again. Within 50 metres is a canopy reading 'YWCA'. The foyer is up a floor. Previously known as the Marvel Hotel.

We booked a twin room, got a double, changed, got a smoker one, than the 3. was good. Very hard without Chinese, but some receptionist can speak English. Don't take room on the 3., restaurant is very near. Bund is just a few steps, great location. Can just recommend.

Thank you for selecting this MetroPolo Classiq boutique for your trip. Built in the 1930's of booming Shanghai was the YMCA. We have 8 MetroPolo hotels in Shanghai to chose from. This one is indeed a great location. Sorry about the room reservation mix up, this should not happen of course, if we are more careful. The smoking problem in...

Wonderful review, almost 5 circles....This is a MetroPolo Classiq hotel, an historic boutique in the old 1930's YMCA building. Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
